CONDOLENCE ON THE PASSING OF LATE EZINNE ELDER MRS HELEN UCHE OTU, AGED 80 YEARS

Sir,

With deep sorrow but total submission to the will of God, we received the news of the passing of your mother - Late Ezinne Elder Mrs Helen Uche Otu nee Ekuma.

On behalf of the Board, Management, Staff and Volunteers of Grassroots Impact & Intervention for Growth Initiative – GIIGI, we extend our heartfelt condolences to you and the entire family.

Ezinne Helen lived a life of faith, service, and impact. Her dedication to God, her commitment to family values, and her role as an Elder in St James Presbyterian Church, Amasiri, made her a shining light in our community. She embodied the spirit of grassroots growth and intervention that GIIGI champions.

We pray that the Almighty God who comforts the mourning will grant you, the children, grandchildren, and all relatives the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace, and may her legacy continue to inspire generations.

21/05/2026: Members of GRASSROOTS IMPACT & INTERVENTION FOR GROWTH INITIATIVE - GIIGI were at Akaeze to offer heartfelt condolences to the Bereaved Family of Mr. & Mrs. Moses+Roseline Ogbonnaya over the untimely passing of their beloved son - David Chinedu - who's an Active and Committed/Dedicated Member of GIIGI. We prayed for his peaceful repose and asked God to grant his parents and siblings the strength and serenity to bear his irreparable loss. 🙏🙏🙏

14/05/2026: GRASSROOTS IMPACT & INTERVENTION FOR GROWTH INITIATIVE - GIIGI is participating in a Pre-State Consultative Meeting on National Action Plan (NAP) for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Nigeria (2024 – 2028) holding in San Diego Hotels Abakaliki.

This is organized by National Human Rights Commission in collaboration with Superskills Nigeria Limited.

Nigeria’s National Action Plan (NAP) for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights 2024 –2028 represents the country’s second national human rights framework, developed pursuant to the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action adopted at the World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna, Austria in 1993. The NAP is a comprehensive framework for the promotion and protection of human rights which reflects Nigeria’s commitment under the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action and in alignment with its constitutional, regional and international human rights obligations.

29/04/2026: GRASSROOTS IMPACT & INTERVENTION FOR GROWTH INITIATIVE - GIIGI PARTICIPATED IN THE EBONYI STATE RICE VALUE CHAIN INVESTORS' FORUM

The Ebonyi State Rice Value Chain Investors' Forum, organised by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in collaboration with EBSMEDA, here in Abakaliki.

The forum brought together investors, government officials, development partners, and smallholder farmers for a one-day deep dive into the enormous investment opportunities across Ebonyi's rice value chain — from input supply and farm production all the way to milling, branding, and export.

📌 *Key messages from the DG of EBSMEDA address:*

• Nigeria's annual rice demand stands at 7.9 million metric tons, with domestic production at just 5.0 million — a massive supply gap that Ebonyi State is uniquely positioned to close.

•Ebonyi has over 400,000 smallholder rice farming households and up to 260,000 hectares of land suitable for irrigated and rain-fed rice production — we are truly Nigeria's Rice Bowl.

• Yields can be doubled to tripled with improved inputs, irrigation, and mechanisation. A commercially managed farm can gross ₦1.5 million per hectare per season — compared to ₦500,000 under subsistence conditions.

•Investment opportunities span the entire chain: certified seed production, agro-dealerships, tractor hiring, paddy drying & storage, integrated milling, rice bran oil extraction, branded rice marketing, and agri-tech platforms — with projected returns ranging from 18% to 80% per annum.

• The Ebonyi One-Stop-Shop (EBOSS), located right here at EBSMEDA, consolidates all regulatory approvals, permits, and land registration under one roof to make it easier than ever for investors to get started.

• Under the state government's ARISE Agenda, the Ebonyi State Government has committed to land bank facilitation, irrigation infrastructure, agro-industrial park development (Abakaliki Rice City), and 3–5 year tax holidays for qualifying agro-industrial investments.

The DG's message was clear: "The land is ready. The farmers are ready. The government is ready. The market is hungry."

We invite investors, agri-businesses, financial institutions, and development partners to partner with EBSMEDA and take advantage of this once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest in the rice value chain of Ebonyi State — and in the future of Nigerian agriculture.

05/05/2026: GRASSROOTS IMPACT & INTERVENTION FOR GROWTH INITIATIVE - GIIGI was represented at Ryan Hotels Abakaliki when The Nigerian Shipper's Council South East Zone in collaboration with Ebonyi State SME Development Agency ( EBSMEDA) hosted Ebonyi Business Community and Civil Society to a one day sensitisation on the importance of Trade Formalization in facilitating Export Business.
Those in attendance stressed the need for all stakeholders to work in synergy to promote the export of Agricultural products in Ebonyi State.

On Monday, May 11th, 2026, GRASSROOTS IMPACT & INTERVENTION FOR GROWTH INITIATIVE - GIIGI participated in the dissemination of the 2026 Citizen Budget organised by the Ebonyi State Ministry of Budget, Planning, Research and Monitoring at Remeritona Hotels and Suites Abakaliki.
The event was well attended by key stakeholders including the Hon. Commissioners, other Government Officials, Religious leaders led by the CAN Chairman, Traditional Rulers, Civil Society Organisations, Media, Town Union Executives, the Organized Labour Unions (NLC/TUC), Student Unions, Market women associations, People Living With Disabilities PLWDs, among others. This is geared towards Consolidation, Institutionalization and Sustainability of all reform initiatives which are in line with the ‘People’s Charter of Needs’ Mantra of the present administration under Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION

PRESS STATEMENT

RESUMPTION OF NATIONWIDE CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION (CVR) FOR FINAL PHASE

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to inform the general public that the current nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume for its third and final phase on Monday, 11th May 2026.

It may be recalled that the second phase of the exercise was suspended on 17th April 2026 to allow the Commission clean up the register after its publication for claims and objections by registrants.

The third phase of the CVR, which begins on Monday, 11th May 2026, will end on Friday, 10th July 2026. During this period, eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register during the earlier phases, should seize this opportunity to do so.

Similarly, registered voters who wish to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct their biodata, are advised to access the Commission’s dedicated online portal at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org or visit INEC State and Local Government Area offices nationwide.

In continuation of the process, the Commission will display the Register of Voters for claims and objections from Thursday, 23rd July to Wednesday, 29th July 2026. This statutory exercise provides an important opportunity for citizens to scrutinise the register and assist the Commission in ensuring its accuracy, completeness and credibility.

The Commission reassures Nigerians that all necessary arrangements have been concluded for the smooth conduct of the exercise. We once again appeal to all eligible citizens to present themselves for registration and to play their part in strengthening the foundation of our electoral process.
