People blaming Koundé for Lookman’s goal really shows how a lot of fans watch football.
At this point, it’s not even just analysis — some of you clearly have a bias against him. There are fans who jump at every opportunity to criticize Koundé, no matter the situation… especially that lady Katie Black.
What exactly was he supposed to do there? Outrun a faster player?
If you want to blame Koundé, then blame the entire backline. They were all in the same position before that counter started. That’s the reality of playing a high line — once it’s beaten, you’re exposed.
Lookman had the pace advantage. Simple.
Koundé not being the fastest defender doesn’t make him a bad player. That’s just lazy criticism.
And let’s be clear: even the best teams concede goals like this. This isn’t about playing a high line or not — mistakes and transitions happen in football regardless.
Real Madrid, for example, concede goals regularly too — and the defensive difference between them and Barcelona this season is minimal. So what exactly are we calling a “bad defense”?
The real issue with this squad is depth — and the lack of a reliable striker option. The bench is not strong enough.
As for the game, the only person I blame is Eric Garcia. He’s been useful, yes, but that was a poor decision. After what happened in the first leg, an experienced player should never make that kind of tackle. I’m not convinced Sørloth scores if that foul doesn’t happen.
And finally… Rashford should quietly return to Manchester United.
