From all of us at Oluchi kalu Girl child Foundation, Global Menstrual Hygiene Day is a call to action for Africa to prioritize menstrual health, dignity, and education for every girl and woman.

We are advocating for;

Access to affordable sanitary products for girls in rural and low-income communities.

Proper menstrual health education to break myths, stigma, and shame.

Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in schools and public spaces.

Policies that support menstrual dignity and keep girls in school during their periods.

Community conversations that normalize menstruation and protect the confidence of the girl child.

Together, we can break the silence, end the stigma, and create a future where every girl manages her period with pride, dignity, and care.
Happy Global Menstrual Hygiene Day.

Support a Girl. Protect Her Dignity.

As we celebrate Global Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026 through Period Dignity 3.0, the Oluchi Kalu Girl Child Foundation is calling on individuals, organizations, and kind-hearted supporters to help us provide sanitary pads to girls in rural public secondary schools.

Many young girls miss classes during their periods due to lack of access to menstrual hygiene products. Together, we can change that.
Your support can help keep a girl confident, healthy, and in school. đź’ś

We are accepting: • Sanitary pad donations
• Financial support
• Partnership/sponsorship opportunities
Join us in creating a period-friendly world where no girl is left behind.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day 2026.
The theme this year is “Give to Gain,” with the focus on Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls as emphasized by the United Nations.
This message reminds us that when we invest in women and girls, everyone benefits. When girls are given education, protection, and opportunities, communities grow stronger and societies progress.
Every woman and girl deserves her rights, fair treatment, and real opportunities to thrive. But change does not happen through words alone — it requires action from families, communities, and leaders.
Let us continue to support, empower, and uplift women and girls everywhere. Because when we give to women and girls, the whole world gains.
Happy International Women’s Day.

PART 2

A question a teenager asked me during one of our outreaches left the entire room silent.

After one of our school outreach programs, we had a question and answer session where students could write their questions anonymously on pieces of paper.
One particular question caught my attention.
It read:

"Please ma, I overheard my classmate discussing with her friends that she uses cotton wool anytime she is on her period and she is going to see her boyfriend. Please can you explain it, ma?"

Imagine that.
A young teenager asking such a question.
Not because she was practicing it, but because she heard it from her peers and did not understand what it meant.
This is the reality many parents refuse to accept.
Our children are seeing things.
Hearing things.

And in some cases, already experimenting with things they barely understand.
Pretending that they are too young to know or talk about these issues does not protect them.
In fact, it leaves them vulnerable.

As a parent, it is dangerous to assume that your child is completely shielded from these conversations.
Children today are exposed to information from:
• Friends
• Social media
• Older students
• Irresponsible adults

If parents refuse to guide them with truth and proper knowledge, the world will gladly teach them — often in the wrong way.
Parents, this is why intentional conversations at home are no longer optional.
Your child should hear the truth first from you, not from the streets.
Because the truth is simple:
Our children are already asking the questions.
The real question is…
Are we ready to give them the right answers?

PART 1

It is very obvious that many parents still struggle with introducing their children to s*x education.
But let’s be honest — in today’s world, silence is no longer protection.
If you don’t talk to your children about s*x in clear, age-appropriate terms, someone else will. And you may not like who that “someone else” is.
In the past years, I’ve had close interactions with teenagers.

And guess what most of their questions revolve around?
• S*x
• Menstruation
• R**e
• Safe period
• Having a bestie of the opposite s*x
• S*xual relationships

These conversations are already happening — just not always in safe spaces.
What many parents feel shy, uncomfortable, or indifferent about discussing… their children already know something about it.

The real question is:
Did they learn from a SAFE adult — or an UNSAFE one?
Avoiding the conversation does not keep them innocent. It only leaves them uninformed and vulnerable.

I’ll be writing this in parts to help you understand what a nonchalant attitude toward s*x education is costing our teenagers.
Parents, we cannot keep pretending. The world has changed. And accountability starts with us. Let’s do better for our children.

2025 was a good year for us, we recorded tremendous progress and we reached out to more girls.
Below is a picture of the last school we visited in 2025 and I met a set of yet another beautiful girls. But I was very concerned about most of them.

I had a session with girls who were ashamed to talk about their body and the changes that comes with puberty and growth. I met girls who have a lot of questions to ask, I met girls who needed answers. I met girls who were eager to learn and unlearn, but the shame of stigmatisation has boxed them into a corner.
This year 2026, we will be doing even more for our girls.
We are open to collaborations and partnerships.

Seven years ago, the tragic story of little Ochanya broke our hearts and shook our nation. A child full of promise, whose innocence was stolen and whose voice was silenced too soon. We believed justice would prevail that those responsible would be held accountable.

Today, to learn that the perpetrators have been discharged and acquitted feels like reopening an old wound. It reminds us how far we still have to go in protecting our children and standing up for the voiceless.

This has further exposed that there are many likes of Ochanya who suffers in silence, we are demanding justice for our daughter, we will keep speaking until justice speaks louder than impunity.
