Notre nouvel article sur les raies Manta de Nouvelle-Calédonie vient d'être publié dans la r***e Fishes !

Cette étude décrit pour la première fois la façon dont les raies Manta récifales de Nouvelle-Calédonie se déplacent en profondeur. Nos résultats montrent quelles présentent des capacités de plongée exceptionnelles, tous les individus descendant à plus de 300 mètres de profondeur, avec un record à -672 mètres.

📣 In only a few weeks time, an important proposal will be voted on at CITES Conference of Parties (CoP) 20, in Uzbekistan. Join us in calling for a global ban on the international commercial trade of manta and devil rays by supporting their uplisting to Appendix I, and help protect these species from extinction.

⚠️ All known species are now threatened with extinction. In some regions, populations have collapsed by more than 90%, driven by targeted fishing, the gill plate trade, and the myth of “sustainable” catch.

📢 This November, global leaders will meet at CITES CoP20 to decide their future. We’re calling for Appendix I protection, to end international commercial trade and give these vulnerable rays a fighting chance.

🌊 Manta rays in the Maldives are clever feeders!

A study by Murray et al (2024), revealed that reef manta rays (Mobula alfredi) adapt their feeding strategies depending on food availability and ocean conditions. 🌊🐟

🔹 Group feeding is more common when food is plentiful
🔹 High tide = the best time for a feast
🔹 Females often lead the way in feeding groups! 💪

This adaptability helps mantas thrive in a changing environment!
