⭕ A Tale of Two Groups: The One I am In and the One I Lead

It is widely accepted that the therapist’s personal therapy is key to improve his or her clinical work. Yet, there are few detailed accounts of this process in the literature. This paper explores the role of the therapist’s personal group therapy on the group that he leads. Ongoing and simultaneous work in group therapy allows the therapist to engage the group that he conducts in new and creative ways. In resonance with relational psychoanalysis, Kaes’ (2006) concepts of the internal group and unconscious communication expand our understanding of how this effect may be possible.
