Hengelaars en vriende

Dit is met groot hartseer dat ons aan u moet meedeel dat Oom Johan Botha oorlede is.

Oom Johan se lewenspad was verweef met die water en die kuns van hengel. Vir veertien jaar het hy sy liefde vir rots en strand uitleef en die ou SWA se kuslyne verken, voordat hy sy hart en hande aan varswaterhengel toegewy het.

Omtrent 1980 het hy sy eerste varswaterwedstryde aangepak, en reeds in 1985 het hy die SWA-kleure verwerf. In 1990 het hy met trots die Namibiese kleure gedra. Hy was nie ’n stigterslid van Steenbras Hengelklub nie, maar sy bydrae en nalatenskap was só groot dat hy as erelid vereer is.

Oom Johan het vier of vyf keer die titel van SWA en Namibiese varswaterkampioen verower. Hy het ook sterk vertonings in LTB gelewer, al het hy nie nasionale kleure nagestreef nie. Sy naam het hoog gepryk in beide rots-en-strand én varswaterkringe.

Hy word onthou as een van die beste, mees alsydige hengelaars wat hierdie land nog opgelewer het. Maar bo alles was hy ’n goeie mens – ’n vriend van vele, en ’n groot kameraad van Oom Paul Steyn.

Ons innige medelye gaan uit na sy gesin, familie, vriende en die hele hengelgemeenskap. Oom Johan se afwesigheid laat ’n groot leemte, en hy sal verseker gemis word.

We would like to extend our sincere congratulations and best wishes to each of you as you step into your new roles. Your election is a reflection of the trust and confidence placed in you by the members, and we believe this is an important opportunity to continue building a strong, united and well-represented association.

We would also like to thank all members who placed their trust in the newly elected members. Your support and confidence are deeply appreciated, and we do not take this responsibility lightly.

We strive to represent you with pride, commitment and integrity at all times. We remain loyal to you, our members, and we are committed to maintaining open, honest and respectful communication as we work together for the benefit of the NFBAA.

You, our members, are the heart of our angling community. Your passion, dedication and continued support is what keeps this association strong, and it is our privilege to serve and represent you.

The growth and wellness of our sport will always be at the forefront of what we do. We will strive to repair our sport where needed, to build trust, to strengthen unity, and to make our sport better and stronger for current and future generations.

May this new term bring renewed energy, positive growth and meaningful progress for all members. Together, we can continue strengthening the NFBAA and building a future we can all be proud of.
