On 19 September 2025, the Global Shapers Windhoek Hub, in partnership with the IUM Environmental Society and the NUST Environmental Society, successfully hosted the Green Bin Sessions at IUM Main Campus (Dorado). The youth-led forum convened approximately 100+ students, creatives, policymakers and sector partners to examine Namibia’s waste management challenges and practical solutions.
Program highlights
⚙️ Presentation by City of WINDHOEK, Waste management division: The City shared updates on recycling initiatives, landfill management, and partnerships with local and international stakeholders.
📍Keynote: Hon. Ester Haikola-Sakaria (Member of Parliament) — called for waste sorting, youth participation in recycling value chains and dignity-driven environmental action.
📍Panel 1: Waste management realities on the ground — municipal, academic and civil-society perspectives.
📍Panel 2: Youth & creativity in waste solutions — entrepreneurship, upcycling and school initiatives.
📍Creative showcase & performance: A performance by Wakapinya Environmental Initiative and poem performance by Mateus Haindongo.
Key outcomes from the discussions
📍Strengthened cross-sector relationships between youth groups, local government, academia, civil society and the creative sector.
📍Momentum to form and support school environmental clubs and mentorship links.
📍Clear pathways for youth to access funding, mentorship and networking via Green Rising / Goodwall and the Global Shapers network.
