✊🏽 WE ARE CO-CREATORS, NOT CONSUMERS: TIAMON DEMANDS A SEAT AT THE ORGANIZING TABLE 🏳️‍⚧️

As Namibia prepares to host major convening milestones like the African Feminist Forum, a critical question remains: Why is the Trans Inters*x Androgynous Movement of Namibia (TIAMON) completely missing from the organizing and decision-making committees?

True solidarity is not built by planning a closed-door event and inviting trans-diverse people merely to sit in the audience. We refuse to be treated as passive consumers of a feminist agenda that is bought, packaged, and delivered to us. When we are excluded from the foundational rooms where themes are chosen, budgets are allocated, and panels are curated, our lived realities are reduced to a checklist item.

On behalf of TIAMON, we direct this urgent, strategic public inquiry to the host organizers and steering committees of the upcoming feminist forums in Windhoek:

On Structural Exclusion: Why are trans-diverse organizations locked out of the core organizing and steering committees? Are we viewed as active architects of African feminist futures, or simply as passive consumers of your programming?

On Authentic Representation: If TIAMON and the wider trans-diverse community are not in the room to shape the agenda, how exactly do you plan to accurately represent our unique struggles with bodily autonomy, medical gatekeeping, and legal recognition?

On Accountability over Tokenism: How will this forum avoid the trap of superficial tokenism if the structural power to make decisions, distribute funds, and control the narrative remains entirely in cis-normative hands?

We cannot dismantle patriarchal binaries using exclusionary tools. A feminism that relegates trans-diverse women to the sidelines is not liberation—it is gatekeeping. We call on our feminist sister organizations, international partners, and allies across Namibia to echo our demand: No representation without direct organizing power.

👇🏽 Let’s discuss below: How can a feminist forum claim to be intersectional if it excludes the very communities it claims to represent from the organizing table?

✊ CHANGE THE LAW. PROTECT EVERY NAMIBIAN. ✊

Today, on LGBTQIA+ Domestic Violence Awareness Day, we break the silence on a critical injustice in our country.

In Namibia, gender-based violence (GBV) remains a national crisis. Yet, under the current Combating of Domestic Violence Act, the legal definition of a domestic relationship explicitly specifies couples “of different s*xes”. This means that while our trans, inters*x, and q***r family are targeted by societal stigma and violence, same-s*x couples are entirely excluded from the basic legal protections of this Act—leaving survivors without access to protection orders when they need them most.

Abuse does not look at your s*xual orientation, gender identity, or expression—and neither should our laws. Safety and dignity are fundamental rights guaranteed to all citizens under the Namibian Constitution.

📣 OUR CALL TO ACTION:

Demand Legislative Amendment: We urge lawmakers to immediately remove the discriminatory phrase “being of different s*xes” from the Combating of Domestic Violence Act to protect every individual in the Namibian House.

End Safe-Space Discrimination: We call on the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) and healthcare institutions to provide dignified, un-biased, and immediate support to q***r survivors seeking help.

Break the Silence: Talk about q***r intimate partner violence. Stigma thrives in the dark, but visibility saves lives.

Love shouldn't hurt, and justice shouldn't discriminate.

🖤 Honoring History. Restoring Voices.

Today, we stand in solemn remembrance on Namibia Genocide Day. We look back at the devastating atrocities committed during the 1904–1908 genocide, recognizing the enduring scars left on our communities and our nation.

🕊️ Remembering the Unnamed and Erased

History often records numbers, but it forgets faces, names, and individual stories. Today, TIAMON extends a special, deliberate focus to those who have been completely erased from the history books.

The forgotten individuals whose names were never recorded.

The marginalized voices pushed to the fringes of historical memory.

The diverse identities within our ancestry whose unique stories were silenced.

✊ Our Commitment

True justice and healing require complete truth. We cannot build an inclusive future without fully honoring every part of our past. We commit to uncovering, sharing, and upholding the memory of all our ancestors—ensuring that no one remains invisible.

🌍 HAPPY AFRICA DAY From All of Us at TIAMON! ✊🏾🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Today, as we celebrate the beauty, resilience, and unity of our continent, we stand tall to remind our nations of a fundamental truth: Trans-diverse and Inters*x people are, and have always been, deeply and undeniably African.

Our identities are not imported; our stories are woven into the very fabric of this continent’s history, culture, and future.

📚 This Year’s Africa Day Theme:
"Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century"

True education means unlearning prejudice and cultivating spaces where every African child—regardless of their gender identity, expression, or s*x characteristics—can thrive safely, learn freely, and contribute fully to our society. We cannot build a progressive 21st-century Africa if we leave our most vulnerable communities behind.

To our vibrant, diverse, and resilient trans and inters*x family across Namibia and the wider African continent: you belong, you are valued, and your heritage is yours to claim. 🇳🇦✨

Let us build an Africa rooted in true inclusivity, integration, and development for ALL.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MURDER CASE OF NANDOMBA ELIAS NAMWANDI AND MERVIN BEUKES POSTPONED TO JULY FOR CASE MANAGEMENT

WINDHOEK — The High Court criminal case involving Nandomba Elias Namwandi and Mervin Beukes has been postponed to 22 July 2026 for a pre-trial case management conference in D-Court, with both men remaining in custody.

The two accused face serious criminal charges, including Count 1: Murder and Count 2: Contravening specific statutory provisions. Following their appearance on the criminal case management and mentions roll, both accused have been remanded in custody at the Windhoek Correctional Facility.

During the court proceedings, it was confirmed that the State has officially filed its pre-trial memorandum. In response, defense teams have also filed their initial response documents, alongside recently submitted supplementary replies.

However, legal proceedings faced a temporary delay as Accused Number 1 (Namwandi) has not yet received the required state disclosure. To resolve this, the court has ordered the State to provide full disclosure to Accused Number 1 by 26 May 2026 [1]. This timeline will also allow the newly appointed defense lawyer for Accused Number 1 sufficient time to review both the upcoming state disclosure and all previous responses already filed on the court record.

Meanwhile, the defense for Accused Number 2 (Beukes) confirmed they are fully prepared and ready to proceed with case management.

To ensure all parties have exchanged and reviewed the necessary documentation, the matter was formally postponed to 22 July 2026, and the accused were returned to the Windhoek Correctional Facility 🏳️‍⚧️
