Namibian Chamber of Environment The NCE is an umbrella body established to represent and support the environment sector in Namibia A group of specialists will then review every project.

WHO WE ARE
The Chamber is an umbrella body established to represent and support the environment sector in Namibia, particularly the non-governmental and private components that are working in support of the environment. We currently have a membership of 44 organisations, well over 90% of all environmental NGOs in Namibia. OUR VISION
NCE`s ultimate aim is to provide support and enhance the capacity of environmental NGOs in Namibia to be more effective, individually and collectively, and thereby contribute to fulfilling the environmental clauses in Namibia’s Constitution, namely the “maintenance of ecosystems, essential ecological processes and biological diversity of Namibia and utilisation of living natural resources on a sustainable basis for the benefit of all Namibians, both present and future”. ADVOCACY
The Chamber works closely with government and the private sector, to enhance Namibia’s environmental management and sustainable development capacity, but also to highlight areas of concern and work to find solutions. SUPPORT
We implement projects that provide support across the whole sector, including:
-environmental policy research,
-national facilitation (e.g. arranging conferences, symposia),
-mentoring young Namibians

FUNDRAISING
We look for new and additional areas to raise funds, through corporate Namibia – via the mining and business sectors – and make those funds available to Members for good projects across Namibia. FUTURE DREAMS
The NCE is in the process of establishing an online grant making tool, whereby Members can submit a request to us for funding. A note on what we DON`T do
We do not compete with our Members either in the implementation of projects or in the raising of funding.

Collecting plant data is not just an academic exercise. It is essential for the conservation and sustainable use of plants.

In this article, Herta Kolberg and Sofia Amakali introduce us to their plant database and some of its many uses. Whether you are doing an EIA for a new development, or want to promote the sustainable use of indigenous plants, this database is a mine of useful information.

Namibia’s growing plant database has many uses for conservation and sustainable development. This service needs continued support to expand in terms of number of species and area covered.

Is the Namibian Marine Phosphate mining project the most misunderstood development in Namibia?

Dr Chris Brown weighs in to this complex debate with his views, based on the findings of many specialist studies conducted as part of the EIA. He also considers the safety mechanisms that have been introduced as part of the Environmental Clearance Certificate.

If you are not sure what to think of phosphate mining, then read this! Let us know what you think in the comments.

Namibian marine phosphate mining has come under fire in the media. Dr Chris Brown counters this narrative with an evidence-based argument.

What a journey!!!

This male Wahlberg's Eagle caught and tagged with a transmitter on 24 Feb 2024 on the farm Eskadron near Witvlei.

He has since flown all the way to Chad and back three times! He leaves Namibia around April and returns in September, where he meets up with a female eagle (it seems that they migrate separately). The pair have been observed nesting in Namibia, hatching chicks twice over three breeding seasons.

In 2024, the northbound journey took 17 days, the southward flight lasted 36 days.
In 2025, the northbound journey took 21 days, the southward flight lasted 28 days.
In 2026, the northbound journey took 19 days, the southward flight lasted 23 days

You can follow his epic journey by watching the video below! Information courtesy of John Mendelsohn, graphic by Franz Klein.

The Namibian Youth Chamber of Environment (NYCE) was invited to take part in the validation workshop for Namibia’s Draft National Strategy on Afforestation and Reforestation on 1 October 2026 by MEFT.
We joined different stakeholders in reviewing and refining the strategy, bringing youth perspectives and ideas to the table.

Namibia is on its way to plant one million trees by 2030!
We’re excited to see the final strategy take shape and even more excited to be part of making Namibia greener.
