Dear NEKA Members,

I hope this letter finds you well. As we navigate through the challenges and triumphs of our journey, it is imperative that we pause and reflect on the values that unite us as members of the Namibia Exile Kids Association (NEKA). Our shared experiences, struggles, and aspirations bind us together in a bond that transcends time and distance.

Today, I write to you with a heartfelt plea for unity, forgiveness, and support for our current elected leadership. In recent times, our association may have been marred by the shadows of tribalism, regionalism, nepotism, hatred, gossiping, and even campaigns of calumny. These divisive forces threaten to erode the very fabric of our community and undermine the noble objectives for which NEKA was founded.

However, amidst these challenges, there lies an opportunity for redemption and renewal. It is within our power to rise above the discord and embrace a future characterized by harmony, cooperation, and inclusivity. Let us set aside our differences and extend forgiveness to one another, recognizing that we are all imperfect beings striving to make a positive impact in our community.

Furthermore, I urge each and every one of you to throw your unwavering support behind our current elected president and leadership. They have been entrusted with the responsibility of steering NEKA towards greater heights, and it is our collective duty to rally behind them in solidarity. Together, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve remarkable feats that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Let us reject the poisonous allure of tribalism, regionalism, nepotism, and hatred, and instead, embrace the values of integrity, respect, and unity. By fostering an environment of trust and mutual respect, we can create a safe haven where every member feels valued, heard, and appreciated.

In closing, let us rekindle the flame of hope and optimism that first inspired us to join NEKA. Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and future generations, grounded in the principles of forgiveness, support, and unity.

With warm regards,

Shilikuvamwe Shikumwifi Miracle Tillinge ya Martin Shileka

Good morning brothers and sisters,
Let us always be reminded that:
1. The Association NEKA is bigger than all of us.
2. The fight for the liberation of our country was fought through sweat and blood. Rivers of blood for a free and fair Namibia.
3. Ours as NEKA is to be the defenders of the Namibian revolution and we must define how we will execute that 34 years post Independence.
4. Our parents and our history must be preserved through NEKA just as the Jewish holocaust - a people whom were brutalized by the German Natzi between 1933-1945 through genocide today preserve their history through the creation of museums, celebration days etc. The rememberance of the Holocaust and may other genocides worldwide are celebrated to date through different organizations.
5. NEKA is no exception to the above and our visionary brother and sisters whom started this great association could see a future of hope and advancement.
5. NEKA should be pre-occupied to fight for the downtrodden, marginalized and oppressed members of NEKA whom have not benefitted from the promises of the 1989 SWAPO Party Manifesto.
6. I end with quoting the legendary Sam Nujoma - A people UNITED striving for the COMMOM Good of all members of society shall ALWAYS emerge VICTORIOUS!

NEKA Elects New Leadership

Following an intense elective congress over the weekend at Otjiwarongo, the Namibia Exile Kids Association (Neka) has elected new leadership in defiance of Swapo's advice to halt the election amid allegations of infighting among candidates.

The new leadership includes Kadiva Hamutumwa as president, Sacky Nendongo as vice president, Elizabeth Shimwafeni as secretary general and Simubali Simubali as deputy secretary general.

On Sunday morning, Swapo secretary general Sophia Shaningwa wrote a letter urging the organisation to suspend its congress upon learning of reported internal discord among candidates, citing potential negative repercussions for Swapo.

"Your ugly campaigns at this time when we are just a few months before the elections will spill over to the Swapo party and will affect our party campaign negatively," Shaningwa wrote.

However, the Neka delegates went ahead and elected new leadership on Sunday evening.

The congress, which saw the participation of over 190 delegates, also established a central committee comprising 26 members, with regional coordinators automatically assuming membership as per the newly endorsed Neka constitution. In addition, a motion was passed to integrate four former/founding Neka members into the central committee.

Swapo has instructed the Namibian Exile Kids Association (Neka) to immediately cease its ongoing elective congress at Otjiwarongo due to allegations of internal conflict in the election of new leadership.

Delegates of Neka, which is awaiting official affiliation with Swapo, have convened at Otjiwarongo since Saturday to determine the association’s direction and new leadership.

Swapo secretary general Sophia Shaningwa was present at the Saturday launch of the organisation’s annual general meeting. On Sunday, Shaningwa issued a letter urging Neka to suspend its congress upon learning of the reported internal discord among candidates, citing potential negative repercussions for Swapo.

“Your ugly campaigns at this time when we are just a few months before the elections will spill over to the Swapo party and will affect our party campaign negatively,” Shaningwa wrote.

Shaningwa added that while attending the Saturday launch, she and environment and tourism minister Pohamba Shifeta advised that Neka should postpone the election of their new leadership.

“Therefore, I strongly feel that my advice to halt on your elections today is an appropriate one and is in the interest of both Neka and the Swapo party to which you are to affiliate,” Shaningwa said.

Meanwhile, sources confirm that the Neka delegates are still debating on a way forward following Shaningwa’s letter.
