Omba Arts Trust "Supporting sustainable livelihoods of marginalised communities through the development, sales and m In a nutshell ...What we do and how we do it !

1.

We operate from Windhoek (the capital city) and send orders by fax and sms (thank heavens for cell phones!). More hands and shared resources = sustainability!

2. We work with partner organisations like the Desert Research Foundation of Namibia (DRFN), Nyae Nyae Foundation of Namibia, Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation (IRDNC) and Namibia Development Trust (NDT).

3. We support

producers in 9 regions of Namibia

4. We support 350 Ju/’hoansi, !Kung, Hai||om and Khwe. These are San people, the first people who lived in Namibia.

5. We help our producers develop unique handmade products that they can be proud of – rooted in culture but always with a contemporary twist.

6. We have training workshops in villages, under trees, in church halls – wherever we can find some shelter. Many of our producers have not been able to go to school but we teach them to keep records and how to plan and hold meetings. In summary ... we help produce the craft that changes lives !

Last week, the Omba team travelled to the North-Central regions of Namibia to visit two of our valued artisan communities in Oshana and Ohangwena.

The purpose of the trip was to conduct quality control assessments, distribute food support, and strengthen our relationships with the artisans who are at the heart of what we do. We also launched a community cleaning campaign in one of the villages, working together to create a cleaner environment and help restore a sense of pride and dignity within the community.

It was a productive and rewarding field trip. We were grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, listen to community members, and continue building on the strong partnerships we have developed over the years.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who welcomed us and participated in the activities. Together, we continue to create opportunities, preserve traditional crafts, and strengthen communities.

🌍✨ OMBA Arts Trust is excited to be part of *The Art of Resilience* exhibition at Artspace in downtown Raleigh US, from mid-May to mid-June 2026.

This exhibition is a celebration of resilience, culture, and storytelling through art, and we are proud to showcase the incredible work of Namibian artisans on an international platform.

Thank you to everyone for continuing to support OMBA and our communities through art. But mostly a very big shoutout to Omba's friend Susu Hauser for making all this possible.

In this video, we see one of the artisans from Omaheke, showing us how the Ostrich Eggshell beads are drilled with a handmade tool.

Very intriguing!

After the beads are made, they are given to another group that makes the finished products.

A moving moment. Our basket weavers up north of Namibia, Singing this song as they recall now Retired and founding director of Omba Arts Trust Karin Le Roux.

Basically asking “Karin where did you go to, why did you disappear in the corners of Windhoek, We miss you “.

Clearly shows the impact Karin and Omba has made on their lives.
