The second day of the orientation on Namibia’s legal and policy frameworks for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) focuses on the Child Care and Protection Act, Youth-Friendly Service Delivery Standards, consent, confidentiality and mandatory reporting.

Healthcare workers, social workers and civil society partners are also engaging in group discussions to identify challenges in delivering SRH and GBV services and explore ways to strengthen referral mechanisms and coordination.

UNFPA Namibia supports efforts to ensure that laws and policies translate into quality, timely, confidential and non-discriminatory services for adolescents, young people and women, and better protection from gender-based violence.

How can we turn strong laws and policies into better services for
those who need them?

Today, service providers in Keetmanshoop are taking part in an
orientation on Namibia’s legal and policy frameworks on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV), conducted by the Ministry of Health and Social Services, UNFPA Namibia and World Health Organization Namibia.

Through this orientation, service providers in //Karas Region// are
strengthening their understanding of SRH and gender-based violence laws and policies to improve service delivery, coordination and referrals for adolescents, young people and women and men.

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) today officially launched three thematic reports covering fertility, mortality and migration, as well as population projections.

The reports provide further analysis of data collected through the 2023 Census, while the population projections provide information to support population planning and decision-making.

UNFPA Namibia supported the 2023 Census process and the development of the thematic reports, as part of its support to strengthen the availability and use of population data for planning and decision-making.

UNFPA Namibia Representative Erika Goldson highlighted the longstanding partnership with the Government of Namibia in strengthening population data, including support to the 2023 Census.

She stressed the importance of using the evidence generated through the Census to inform planning and decision-making.
