Regional conversations are strongest when they are informed by evidence and the lived realities of the communities they aim to serve.
Last week, IntraHealth Namibia joined youth leaders, academic institutions, practitioners, partners, and parliamentarians from across Southern Africa at the three-day Sixth Southern African Regional Students and Youth Conference (SARSYC VI).
The conference provided a platform to exchange knowledge, strengthen collaboration, and explore practical solutions that advance the health, education, and digital inclusion of young people.

Our participation in this regional conversation was informed by the work taking place across Namibia, where IntraHealth Namibia works alongside partners and communities to expand access to health information, strengthen community engagement, and improve linkages to essential health and social services. Through initiatives such as Project HUGUVARA, community care workers are helping young people access information and support, connect to services, and make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.

As we engaged in this regional dialogue, we did so with one goal: to listen, contribute, and return with ideas and relationships that strengthen the work we do alongside communities across Namibia.

The funeral shouldn't be what alarms us. The silence before it should.
Men in Namibia are less likely to talk about their struggles, less likely to ask for help, and less likely to acknowledge when something in their life is not working.

Perhaps we haven't quite built a culture where men feel safe enough to do any of those things. Not at work, not in their homes and communities.
When a man does try to open up, he is often met with ridicule, ignored, or told to man up. So he goes quiet and tries to manage alone, until he can't.

This is not just a men's issue, it's a collective failure. Families, workplaces, and communities all play a role in whether a man feels he can speak, ask, or open up without judgement.

If someone in your life needs to see this, send it to them directly. Don't just share it. Put it in front of them. Have the conversation.

Healthy children are the foundation of healthier communities.
As we commemorate the Day of the African Child, we celebrate the potential, resilience and dreams of every child while recognizing the importance of access to quality healthcare, health education and supportive communities. At IntraHealth Namibia, we remain committed to strengthening health systems that help children, families and communities thrive. Because a healthier Namibia begins with healthier children.
