Today, FENATA took part in a vital stakeholder engagement initiated by the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) alongside the Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL). The session emphasised collaboration between the tourism private sector and NAMPOL's Tourist Protection Unit to safeguard tourists, improve coordination with the industry, and address challenges that threaten the long-term sustainability of Namibian tourism in terms of safety.

It proved a thoroughly positive meeting, underscoring the essential need for partnership. Lt-Gen. Joseph Shimweelao Shikongo reaffirmed NAMPOL's commitment to supporting the tourism industry.

At the launch of Namibiaโ€™s Public-Private Forum, Her Excellency, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah called on all 500 delegates present to embrace an inclusive and urgent commitment to a partnership of purpose. This partnership aims to serve the people of Namibia and build a strong, resilient nation that facilitates decent and sustainable job creation, while simultaneously enhancing Namibiaโ€™s competitiveness. The goal is bold, yet entirely achievable.

Priority areas identified include agriculture, sport, youth empowerment, health, education, land, housing, sanitation, and the creative industry. Key enablers are mining, energy, water, agriculture once more, tourism through Namibiaโ€™s biodiversity, and fisheries.

There is also a strong focus on oil and gas, as well as infrastructure to drive growth and development. We must rely on our strengths and assets to leverage our global partnerships effectively.

The Public-Private Forumโ€™s structure marks a departure from previous attempts, as it is properly structured and institutionalised to ensure permanence.

The Namibia Tourism Boardโ€™s inaugural MICE Training event kicked off yesterday in Swakopmund, marking a significant milestone for Namibiaโ€™s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions sector. With around 35 participants from hospitality, travel agencies, public sector bodies including municipalities and the Agronomic Board, academia, and media, this official training programme is the first of its kind to address the industryโ€™s growing needs.

A highlight of the event was the introduction of the Namibia Convention Bureau by Manager Esther Ndilula. Established in July 2024, the Bureau is gearing up for a national call-out to Namibian businesses involved or interested in the MICE industry. Collaboration between the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) and NTB is recognised as crucial for sustainable growth and long-term success, with a shared vision to build the strong and recognisable Brand โ€œMICE Destination Namibia.โ€

All Namibians are urged to recognise their role as national ambassadors, as the countryโ€™s reputation and success in hosting international events depend on offering efficient, engaging, and uniquely Namibian experiences; through cuisine, culture, and more.

Key factors highlighted for attracting MICE markets include accessibility (air travel and visa facilitation), ease of mobility within the country, and security encompassing political stability, health, safety, and quality assurance.

Over the coming days, participants will engage in workshops and discussions focused on best practices, with a clear emphasis on flexibility and adaptation to meet the dynamic needs of the global MICE landscape. This initiative truly sets Namibia on a promising path to position itself as a preferred MICE destination.
