Greenspace Namibia The Avis Dam basin, on the Eastern side of Windhoek is managed by Greenspace. Greenspace is a voluntary non-profit NGO.

Our main objective - to support the development and maintenance of urban open spaces for Windhoek residents. Greenspace leases the Avis Dam and surrounds (almost 300 hectares) from the City of Windhoek. It manages the natural environment and human activities at the dam in accordance with a Management Plan that is approved by the CoW and Greenspace members. The leased area is currently zoned “undet

ermined” in the town planning scheme, which means that it can be used by the Municipality for any purpose it deems fit. The area’s strategic location near the city, together with its natural beauty, have made it a frequent target for commercial development. It is one of Greenspace’s current objectives to have the Avis Dam rezoned as a nature reserve before our lease agreement expires in 2030.

Dear Avis Dam visitors 🌿

As we approach our summer opening hours, please take note of the attached schedule for the gate opening times. We kindly ask everyone to leave the dam before closing time, as our security team is no longer on duty once the gates are closed.

Your safety is very important to us. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep Avis Dam a safe and enjoyable place for everyone.
