TUCNA leadership had a curtesy meeting with the Ministry of Trade and International Relations today at 09;00. This meeting was aimed at developing a relationship and cooperation with the ministry. It also aimed at strengthening participation of trade unions in AfCFTA national implementation committee, SADC national committee. Discussions around exploring the possibility of opening up a bi-partite national trade forum to become a tripartite where trade unions can be included in Namibia were also had. Additionally, the meeting highlighted and questioned the progress of Investment Promotion Bill in which moving forward TUCNA raised interest for union involvement before the bill finalisation.
Issues of possible trade union participation in the upcoming business forum starting next week were also explored in this meeting. The outcome was quite fruitful as the ED and her team agreed to that the inclusion of trade unions is paramount. Moving forward, the inclusion, consultation, involvement and participation of trade unions in national programs will be emphasised. The meeting ended on a high note as both teams are looking forward to working together and nurturing this partnership.
