The Tsama Appaloosa Stud hosted the second Vet Internship Day for Windhoek Veterinary Clinic cc this past weekend. Veterinary students gathered for a three day course of practical, hands-on training, sharpening their skills and deepening their knowledge of equine, and other livestock matters.
The days covered essential topics to prepare these future vets for the field:
🐾 Abscess Management – Identifying and treating abscesses
📊 Reproductive Scanning – Ultrasound assessment of the uterus and ovaries
💉 IM & IV Drug Administration – Safe and precise injection techniques on live animals
🧠 Hoof Management & Correction – Keeping horses sound and comfortable
🍼 Equine Weaning Techniques – Best practices for a smooth transition
Students also gained experience with small stock procedures, including internal parasite control, correct tagging, and castration techniques in sheep, broadening their skills for mixed practice.
