The United Pan-Africanist Movement expresses its deep concern and unequivocally condemns the alarming increase in violent acts against children in Cameroon. Reports of kidnapping, sexual violence, abuse, and the killing of children are deeply disturbing and represent a grave violation of human rights, human dignity, and the fundamental principles upon which our societies are built.
Children are the foundation of Africa’s future. Every act of violence committed against a child is not only an attack on an individual life but also an attack on the future of our continent. Such acts rob children of their safety, opportunities, and potential, while undermining the collective aspirations of Africa’s development and renaissance.
In light of these troubling developments, UPAM Global calls for urgent and coordinated action:
* The Government of Cameroon should intensify efforts to ensure the safety and protection of children, strengthen law enforcement and child protection systems, and ensure that perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
* Security agencies and all armed actors must immediately cease all forms of violence against civilians, particularly children, and uphold their obligations under international humanitarian and human rights laws.
* Community leaders, religious institutions, parents, educators, and civil society organizations should work together to strengthen community vigilance, promote child protection awareness, and report suspicious activities that may place children at risk.
* The international community, development partners, and Pan-African institutions should support efforts aimed at addressing the underlying causes of violence, including insecurity, conflict, poverty, and weak social protection systems.
To the families who have lost loved ones or whose children have suffered from these acts, we extend our deepest sympathies and solidarity. Your pain is shared across our Pan-African community, and we stand with you in demanding justice, accountability, and meaningful action.
UPAM Global remains steadfast in its commitment to building a peaceful, united, and prosperous Africa where every child can grow, learn, and thrive in safety and dignity.
We cannot remain silent in the face of injustice.
We call for action.
We call for accountability.
We call for the protection of Africa’s children.
