Last year, we initiated public dialogue on body donation to science, recognising its potential to strengthen medical education, research and healthcare.

As the Ministry of Health and Social Services begins consultations on the Draft Human Tissue Bill, we welcome this important step towards establishing a clear, ethical and dignified framework for body donation. Timely policy is essential to protect donors and their families, uphold informed consent, and ensure that scientific advancement is grounded in respect and ethics.

We encourage Namibians to participate in the consultations. Our voices can help shape a policy that allows a final act of generosity to contribute meaningfully to healthcare and science for generations to come.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH ANNOUNCES PUBLIC CONSULTATION DATES FOR THE DRAFT HUMAN TISSUE BILL AND THE DRAFT BLOOD SERVICES BILL ✍️

The Ministry of Health and Social Services cordially invites the public to participate in the upcoming National Public Consultations on the Draft Human Tissue Bill and Draft Blood Service Bill.

WHAT ARE THESE BILLS ABOUT?

DRAFT HUMAN TISSUE BILL: This new framework will replace the outdated 1977 laws. It will govern the donation and allocation of human bodies, organs and tissue for medical training, research and therapeutic purposes, including organ and tissue transplantation. It will also regulate post-mortem examinations, artificial fertilization and critical matters relating to surrogate motherhood.

DRAFT BLOOD SERVICES BILL: This legislation is designed to manage and regulate the collection, processing, and provision of safe blood in Namibia. It establishes clear parameters for operating licenses and ensures the protection of blood donors, recipients, and healthcare employees.

These bills will shape the future of critical health services in our country, and your input is vital to ensuring they reflect the needs and values of our nation. We will be visiting various regions across the country from 2 November to 18 November 2026. All sessions will commence at 09H00.

Namibia's Leena Amwaalwa has been recognised with the Queen Elizabeth II Commonwealth Trust (QECT) 100 Young Leaders Award 2026 for her contribution to community development and social advocacy.
Amwaalwa, founder of the Conscious Millennials Foundation, was honoured for her work advancing health awareness, youth empowerment and social inclusion, including her cervical cancer awareness campaign.
As part of the award, she is receiving funding and mentorship through the Trust and its partners to help strengthen and expand the impact of her work.
The QECT 100 Young Leaders Award recognises outstanding young changemakers from across the Commonwealth who are driving positive change in areas including health, education, environmental sustainability, food security and social inclusion. UPDATE Rita Kakelo

🎗️ June is National Cancer Survivors Month; a time to celebrate the strength, resilience and hope of those who have faced cancer and to honour the stories that continue to inspire others.

For cervical cancer survivors such as Karen Nakawala and Barbara Kamba Nyathi, survival often becomes a mission. Having walked a road they would never wish on another woman, many turn their pain into purpose by championing awareness, encouraging screening and advocating for HPV vaccination and timely treatment.

In Namibia, the fight remains urgent. Cervical cancer is the second most prevalent cancer among women, with an *estimated 350 new cases and more than 200 deaths recorded every year. Behind every number is a mother, daughter, sister, friend or colleague whose life, dreams and space in society matters.

The encouraging news is that cervical cancer is largely preventable. Through HPV vaccination for girls aged 9–14, regular screening, early diagnosis and prompt treatment, we have the tools to save lives. Namibia's nationwide HPV vaccination and screening programmes are an important step towards a future where fewer families have to hear the words, "You have cancer."

💙 This month, we celebrate survivors not only for enduring, but for choosing to speak, educate and light the way for others.
💙 Every story shared, every girl vaccinated and every woman screened brings us one step closer to ending cervical cancer in Namibia.

On Feb 04, 2026, World Cancer Day, we were honoured to attend the World Cancer Day Commemoration Service at Bet-El Lutheran Parish under the theme “United by Unique.” Organised by breast cancer survivor and awareness advocate, Ms. Renathe Skrywer, the service offered a meaningful space for prayer, remembrance, and hope.

Represented by our awareness advocate, Tuyakula H Nepaya we joined survivors, caregivers, advocates, and allies in reaffirming our shared commitment to cancer awareness, early detection and compassionate support. The gathering reminded us that while our journeys are different, we are united in one common fight; turning remembrance into action and hope into impact. 🎗️💜
