“Nothing should be done for us without us.” 📌📌📌
These words were spoken by a representative of the San community, emphasising the need for and to become a reality rather than just a dream for San communities.

The workshop was organised to highlight the lived experiences and priority needs of San communities in Namibia, as well as examining how San communities are represented and whose voices are included in the discussions surrounding genocide negotiations.

The key messages from the discussions were :
1️⃣The Namibian government must recognise the San community's ancestral land claims, acknowledge their language, address the dispossession of land, confront the history of genocide, and honour their contributions to Namibia's liberation struggle.
2️⃣Developmental partners should establish programs and projects aimed at breaking the cycle of vulnerability among San women and San youth. Additionally, research on San communities must lead to actionable developmental initiatives.
3️⃣The Namibian people must hold each other accountable for the dehumanisation and discrimination faced by the San community.

"We should all be responsible for seeing the change that we want to see”, 🗣 said one of the speakers at the workshop, which was concluded yesterday.

Just ended – “From Knowledge to Power.”
With the support of FES Namibia and the African Union, the Young Women of Africa convened a 2-day festival under the theme “From Knowledge to Power – Centering African Feminist Knowledge in the struggle for equality.” The festival seeks to contribute to the broader democratic discourse on gender equality by creating a knowledge platform that encourages civic dialogue, feminist political education, and inclusive policy conversations. The festival aims to create a constructive space where participants can openly explore the meaning, evolution, and relevance of feminism within African societies.

Mainstreaming gender issues within trade unions is essential for addressing workplace inequalities. In response to the call for , , and , the leadership of the Metal and Allied Namibian Workers Union (MANWU) organised a two-day workshop to revise the Gender Policy Plan of Action. This workshop aimed to assess the outdated policy, identify gaps, recognise achievements, and develop an updated Gender Policy and Plan of Action.

The revised policy outlines several key gender issues that the MANWU leadership and its members will address collectively:
☑Class, age, race, vulnerable workers, and persons with disabilities
☑Equal participation in Collective Bargaining Agreements
☑Equal pay for equal work
☑Rights to maternity, paternity, and parental leave
☑Health, safety, and dignity in the workplace
☑Training and mentorship
☑Protection against workplace sexual harassment

The anticipated updated gender policy is inclusive, intersectional, and aligned with International Labour Organisation standards, and contributions from MANWU leadership.
