REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS | DEVELOPMENT OF A BUSINESS PLAN AND IMPLEMENTATION ROADMAP FOR AN INDUSTRY TRAINING INSTITUTION

The Namibia Savings, Insurance and Investment Association (NaSIA) invites suitably qualified consultants and consulting firms to develop a comprehensive Business Plan and Transformation Roadmap for the proposed NaSIA Academy.

The assignment will assess the feasibility of transforming the existing Institute of Insurance of Namibia (IIN) into a sustainable, industry-wide academy serving Namibia’s non-banking financial services sector.

NaSIA is pleased to present another insightful guest lecture at the University of Namibia (UNAM).

Mr Gerson Muremi CA(NAM), Chief Operations Officer at Pyxis Investment Management (Pty) Ltd, will lead a session on “The Basics of Investing,” with emphasis on understanding investment options, funds, risk and returns.

A qualified Chartered Accountant registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Namibia since 2016, Mr Muremi brings more than a decade of experience gained across KPMG, the banking sector and investment management. His multidisciplinary experience spans operations, finance, compliance and corporate governance.

The session will provide students with practical knowledge of fundamental investment concepts, helping them understand how different investment options work and how risk and return influence financial decisions.

NaSIA, in collaboration with the University of Namibia (UNAM) and IJG Namibia, hosted yet another exciting guest lecture on “Investing in Namibia: Opportunities, Risks and Strategies”

The session was presented by Chidera Onwudinjo CA(NAM), CFA, Portfolio Manager at IJG Namibia. He introduced students to various investment instruments, including shares, bonds, treasury bills and unit trusts, while discussing risk and return, diversification, Namibia’s financial markets and practical ways for young people to begin their investment journeys.

Students were encouraged to build diversified portfolios rather than placing all their money in a single asset or company. Those interested in pursuing careers in the investment industry were advised to use demo-trading platforms, research companies, follow financial news and demonstrate genuine curiosity. Mr Onwudinjo also shared guidance on pursuing the certain qualifications and which will further prepare the students for finance-related careers.

The session concluded with an engaging discussion on artificial intelligence. While students raised concerns about overdependence on AI, unequal access and possible job losses, they were encouraged to view it as a tool for improving productivity and creating new opportunities. The importance of maintaining independent thinking, foundational knowledge and sound judgement when using AI was also emphasised.

“Not every good idea deserves capital.”

This was the central message of an insightful guest lecture facilitated by NaSIA at the University of Namibia (UNAM) and delivered by Ms Erry Iipumbu, Junior Portfolio Manager at SanlamAllianz Investments.

Speaking to Bachelor of Economics students on Corporate Finance, Ms Iipumbu bridged the gap between textbook concepts and real-world financial decision-making. The session explored capital budgeting techniques, capital structure and financing, working capital management, business valuation, risk management, dividend policy, and mergers and acquisitions.

Students gained practical insight into how investment professionals assess opportunities, manage uncertainty and determine whether a project or business can create sustainable value. The interactive discussion also explored developments within the investment industry, including artificial intelligence, global markets, exchange-traded funds and portfolio diversification.

Ms Iipumbu further shared her professional journey from Graduate Trainee to Junior Portfolio Manager. She encouraged students interested in the investment industry to remain curious, pursue practical exposure through internships and consider professional qualifications such as the CFA programme.

NaSIA extends its appreciation to Ms Iipumbu and SanlamAllianz for sharing their expertise, and to UNAM for creating a valuable platform that connects academic learning with industry practice.

NaSIA, in collaboration with our valued member NamibRe, recently hosted the NaSIA FIMA Executive Breakfast Session, bringing together industry leaders, regulators, and financial services professionals to unpack the implementation of the Financial Institutions and Markets Act (FIMA) and its impact on Namibia's non-bank financial sector.

The session featured insightful presentations from legal and regulatory experts Eliaser Nekwaya and Christine Rodrigues, who explored the opportunities and challenges presented by FIMA, including governance, consumer protection, risk-based supervision, and compliance requirements.

An engaging panel discussion with NAMFISA executives - Imanuel Hawanga, Erich L. Gariseb and Hilka Kandali Alberto further provided practical guidance and addressed key questions from industry stakeholders.
