NAWA travels far and wide to reach the poorest of the poor.
We offer harnessing, bridles, yolks, vaccinations, wound care for their horse, donkeys, mules, zorses and zonkies.

These working animals are the life line of many families who will never have money for a vehicle.

It can only happen because of the funding and donations we receive in cash and kind.

One thing that we are truly amazed by, is the gratitude and genuine thankfulness because in amongst all the care and services that companion animals get, these long suffering animals and the owners who need them daily for chores, seem to get put at the bottom of lists.

NAWA’s Project Donkey recognises their worth and spends time and money ensuring that working animals in Namibia are a little more comfortable🫏🐎

Thank you:

September, another good month of spays and neuters 🎉

▶️ Our regular monthly Groot Aub sterilizations were 33 and then we added an outreach to Gobabis where we did another 40 to make September’s number 73!

▶️ 126 other animals (mostly puppies but also 1 horse and 2 goats) received life saving vaccinations and Dr Courtney and the vet team attended to 5 critical emergencies.

This is all because of our valuable and super important sponsors and donors who enable this consistent month in, month out work.

We could not be more grateful 🙏🏻

🌈 Update on the post 3 days ago on the home invasion and animal cruelty case in Rehoboth.

Both pups are 6 weeks old only and are eating and walking fine at this stage.
Missing their mom I am sure but they do have each other which helps!

🐶 Pup no 1 needed to have his eye removed which happened yesterday afternoon. The anesthetic went well for such a young pup.

🐶 Pup no 2 has had X-rays and the confirmation is that she has multiple fractures on her top jaw which will heal because she is so young.

Thank you to the Rehoboth police officers who acted so quickly with the help of Deodene, Rehoboth’s animal advocate ⭐️

Thank you to all who are donating what they can, every amount helps with the veterinary invoices which we are starting to receive 🙏🏻

🫏 A new partnership. 31 animals cared for. 40 humane harnesses built. And a whole lot of donkey kisses.

This past month, Animal Aid Abroad welcomed one of our newest African partners — NAWA, the Namibian Animal Welfare Association — and together we got straight to work for the working donkeys and horses of rural Namibia.

Meet Rose, a 10-year-old mare who had just given birth. When she arrived at the Groot Aub practice, she couldn't walk at all — struck down by a painful muscle-cramping condition. Her owner, Markus, has brought her back faithfully, four times now, for the medicine she needs. Today Rose is steady on three legs and growing stronger — and we're hopeful that last leg is close behind. 🐴

That's what a new partnership makes possible on the ground, from day one.

The month in numbers:
🫏 31 working equines cared for across Witvlei and Groot Aub.
🧵 40 humane harnesses and 40 bridles made — plus four new prototype yokes already proving they prevent the neck injuries these animals so often suffer.
👩‍🏫 22 adults and countless children taught how to care for, handle, and respect working donkeys.
🐴 8 horses given urgently-needed hoof care by NAWA's farrier, Johan.
➕ A new horse specialist hired and trained to spot injuries from poor equipment — and medicines, vaccines and wound-care supplies restocked, all through AAA funding.

These donkeys and horses carry entire rural households through their days. With NAWA newly on the ground and supporters like you behind them, they're getting care, better equipment, and dignity — much of it for the very first time.

But every harness built, every wound treated, every new partnership depends on people who choose to stand with these animals.

👉 Help a brand-new partnership go further. Donate today: https://www.animalaidabroad.org/donate

Your gift becomes exactly this: a padded harness that prevents a wound, medicine for a mare like Rose, and skilled hands reaching animals who've never known care before. 💛

A brutal scene and innocent puppies badly damaged 🙉

NAWA received a late night call of distress after a home invasion and burglary was reported to the police in Rehoboth.

The police discovered a mama dog with 4 puppies, two of which were severely injured by the perpetrators during the burglary.

Why? Why?

😫 One received a bashing so hard her eye popped out of its socket and her brother received a bashing so hard that his jaw is dislocated and he hasn’t eaten since yesterday afternoon because he can’t!

🥺They are only just 6 weeks old and innocent as innocent can be, so why hurt them? In

NAWA’s calls to AANWO vet and staff were answered immediately and they were attended to through the night and now they are receiving care at UNAM until they are ‘repaired’ enough to go home.

We are so grateful to those who donate to the emergencies that come through NAWA because the vet bills are going to be big for the two little souls.

🐶🐶positive thoughts and prayers please🙏🏻

When NAWA counts it's blessings we count our collaborators and donating partners twice💛💛

A massive thank you to our Windhoek SPCA Namibia and to FP du Toit Transport Group for the wonderful delivery of dog food.

1 341 kilograms of it!

This comes at a crucial time, and we are VERY grateful for the donation and convienient delivery to doorstep.

NAWA's teams do not just hand it out without purpose. It is given to the caring owners:
✔who bring in their animals for spaying and neutering
✔it is given to the owners whose animals are extremely sick and need a 'good food' boost while on medications
✔it is given to the truly needy.

Thank you to all who donate!

You wont believe the difference it makes.

PARVO/Katgriep🥺

Please, please, please vaccinate!

🐾 Simply put, BUT super important are vaccinations at these exact puppy ages.
🐈‍⬛ Just as important for kittens

At 6 weeks (1.5 months)
At 12 weeks (3 months)
At 18 weeks (4.5 months)

Please do the right thing 🙏🏻

Keep your furry babies INDOORs for at least 5 months until after vaccinations and booster periods fully cover them from this terrible disease 🙏🏻

The minute vomiting and diarrhea starts, get veterinary assistance immediately, please.
