Several s*x workers leaders are meeting at Okahandja for the commemoration of International S*x Workers Day.

"Is a significant occasion to recognize the dignity, rights, resilience and lived realities of s*x workers around the world” said Pitti Peter, national director of Namibian S*x Workers Alliance (Namswa).

According to Peter, this process creates space for reflection, shared learning and the development of a stronger, more united movement that can effectively advance the rights and well-being of s*x workers across the country.

"As part of this engagement, members also participate in a collective review of the African Feminist Charter, sharing recommendations and reflections that speak to the realities, aspirations, and rights of s*x workers within broader feminist and social justice movements," Peter further stated.

The Namibian S*x Workers Alliance, as the umbrella body of the s*x workers movement in Namibia, plays a central role in convening and supporting these efforts.

"Through its leadership, the Alliance continues to promote unity, amplify the voices of s*x workers, and strengthen the movement’s capacity to advocate for human rights, safety, dignity, health, and social justice," Peter added.

On this International S*x Workers’ Day, the Sisonke National Movement in South Africa express our deep concern at the continued delays in advancing the decriminalisation of s*x work into law. Every day that passes without legal reform leaves s*x workers vulnerable to violence, abuse, exploitation, unlawful policing practices, and barriers to accessing justice.

Today, we lead s*x workers, allies, human rights defenders in joining social justice movements across the globe in commemorating this important day under the theme: Access to Justice for All S*x Workers.

About Red Umbrella Fund
Red Umbrella Fund is the first and only global fund by and for s*x workers. We publish one Call for Applications each year. Since its launch, RUF has offered 11,886,500 in more than 381 grants to s*x worker-led organisations around the world.

Who makes what decisions?
Red Umbrella Fund is guided by an International Steering Committee (ISC) made up of s*x workers and donors. The ISC decides the grantmaking criteria, approves the annual budget and makes other strategic decisions. The Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) advises the ISC about which new grants to make. Day-to-day work is done by a small Secretariat team.

What do PAC members do?
PAC members read and score the applications and select which applications should be funded by Red Umbrella Fund. PAC members can stay on the PAC for up to 3 years.

Who are on the PAC? The PAC has up to 11 members, always with a large majority (at least 80%) of s*x workers. Red Umbrella Fund wants a PAC that is diverse in terms of gender and geography.

As we observe S*xual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month this April, we stand in the belief that every person deserves safety, dignity, and bodily autonomy regardless of their profession.

We are frequently targeted by violence and often denied the protection of the law. This must change. Safety is a human right, not a privilege.

Join us in demanding justice, ending stigma, and ensuring safety for all.
