ZURI Orphanage ZURI Orphanage started with Pippie - a tortoiseshell cat that was severely burned - We treated her for months and she survived and she now lives with Vonnie.

Pippie lost both her ears and have scars all over her body but she is the most lovable cat... Since then there were doves, owls a snake eagle and we hope in future many more...

Oubaas...From being a skeleton with one of the worst skin infections I have ever seen...to being part of the ZURI family...

Not long ago this is what they looked like...We released them three days ago and tonight she flew into our bedroom and went to sit on Markus's laptop...Waiting for some food...How magic is that...She knows this is safe...I put her back into the cage with the gate open and gave her some more food...And she is free to go when she wants...Just a brilliant moment...

And so this evening we opened the gate and first the one flew out and sat for a little while on the gate...And then when I looked again the other one was also gone...And hopefully we will see them around the house and hear them every evening...There will be food for them for just in case they dont find a mouse...Down Down will stay a little bit longer. In the mean time there is five little baby barn owls to feed, a baby dove and a baby swallow...

ZURI magic...This morning I was lucky enough to ride Dancer and we saw a troop of mongooses with babies as well as a scrub hare. This evening on my way from work there was about 30 kudus along the road as I turned into ZURI. We have 7 baby barn owls and Down Down our Pearl Spotted Owlet. This evening I sat with Kimmy the Giant Eagle Owl and she talked in her soft little voice. Then the best surprise when there were two different porcupine families. One had two babies and the other only one baby. The wild barn owls are flying and calling. There is a wild Pearly calling to Downy. There is 8 dogs and 10 cats and sheep and horses. ZURI is the most beautiful place on earth for me...

They are so cute...The baby fell asleep immediately after eating just where I put him down and the "non family" member is preening the other baby. Four of them was found on one farm together and the one doing the preening is from another farm. All of them was not in good condition and it took a day or two of force feeding and some fluids to get them to swallow. Tonight was the first night that all of them ate well. The smallest ones was the first to start eating well. We have another two babies that have grown and are outside in the big cage tonight for the first time. They will be released not too long from now...

Yesterday we received another little baby barn owl...This one is a little more fragile and has a injury on his one leg. The goal is to get him strong and rested and well. He is being force fed still but is making sounds and doing well. In the mean time our other two babies have started to fly and is in the big cage sharing with Down Down. Downey can talk now like a proper Pearly Spotted Owlet and he talks in his own language when he sees or hear me...And another piece of my heart belong to a tiny little owl...

And tonight our little marsh owl flew away... She was getting stronger every day and we knew it was time... We opened the door of the big cage and when we came back to check she was gone...a Thank you for rescuing her...

He is getting stronger and are flying short distances. He also eats on his own. It is getting closer that he will go but for now we are loving to watch him. Marsh owls are just the prettiest little owls.
