This short video puts into words one of the deepest reasons I have remained a Rotarian since 2004.

Rotary’s motto is Service Above Self. It is not merely a slogan. It means looking beyond our own pressures and using our time, abilities and relationships to improve someone else’s life.

In doing that, something happens to us too. Service pulls us into the present, restores perspective and reminds us that we are not powerless.

For more than two decades, Rotary has given me friendship, purpose and a practical way to turn good intentions into real, lasting change. My children have grown up around that spirit of service, and I have seen what ordinary people can accomplish when they work together for something greater than themselves.

At its heart, Rotary is simply people serving people.

If this speaks to something within you—if you have wanted to make a difference but were unsure where to begin—perhaps Rotary is worth a closer look. Send us a message or join us at one of our meetings.

Reminder of the Rotary talk on Monday 24 August

Meeting our neighbours. Building bridges.

Club President Jeffrene of Rotary Club Walvis Bay and Rotarian Ansie were courteously received by President Naude and other members of Rotary Club of Swakopmund, Namibia.

For us, attending their meeting was a most enjoyable experience that provided an additional opportunity for local fellowship.
It was interesting to observe that the core spirit of service above self remained identical, but was given a unique approach by the host club. The familiar meeting structure was present, but a distinctly local flavour was recognizable.

While the clubs have similar challenges, there were also fresh perspectives and inventive ideas that will serve as inspiration for us.
