Late update:

MVA reported on the B2 route between Bird / Guano Island and Walvis Bay on Thursday (04/06/2026) evening involving a double cab pick-up and a sedan vehicle in what appears to be a head-on crash.

In total, 6 people were initially injured in the crash and numerous ambulances from the region were dispatched to the scene.

A passenger in the pick-up had to be extricated from the wreckage using hydraulic rescue equipment, and required paramedical intervention at the scene before he was transported to hospital in a critical condition for further intervention. Sadly, he died in hospital due to the nature of his injuries sustained in the crash.

Those injured were transported to the Swakopmund & Walvis Bay State Hospital and the Welwitschia Private Hospital respectively. The nature of their injuries were described as non-lifetheatening.

Two patients were later transferred to Windhoek for specialist intervention and care.

A d/cab pick-up veered off the road and overturned. Apparently, the driver noticed something wrong with one of the tyres, and she lost control when she tried to steer the pick-up off the road surface.

An ambulance returning to the coast arrived on the scene minutes after the crash and assisted those injured. Two of the occupants required on-scene intervention before both were transported to the Swakopmund State Hospital for further accessment and treatment.

Safari trip ends in tragedy near Sesriem

Staff Reporter

A 46-YEAR-OLD Brazilian tourist died and several other foreign nationals sustained injuries after a safari vehicle overturned on the C14 gravel road between Sesriem and Walvis Bay on Friday, police have confirmed.

According to the weekend crime report, the accident occurred at approximately 11:58 on Friday, 29 May 2026, about 110 kilometres from Walvis Bay.

Police said a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to a touring company was transporting six foreign-national passengers when the vehicle overturned. Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle's driveshaft became disconnected and lodged in the ground, causing the driver to lose control before the vehicle swerved and rolled.

The Brazilian woman sustained multiple injuries and died as a result of the crash. The remaining passengers suffered minor to moderate injuries and were transported to Welwitschia Private Hospital for medical treatment.

At the time of the police report, the deceased's next of kin had not yet been informed. Investigations into the incident are continuing.

Meanwhile, Chameleon Safaris Namibia confirmed that one of its safari vehicles was involved in the accident while travelling from the Sesriem area to Walvis Bay.

In a statement issued, the company expressed its condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased.

"We regret to confirm that the incident resulted in a fatality. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the family, friends and loved ones affected during this difficult time," the company said.

Chameleon Safaris said its immediate focus remains on supporting those involved in the accident, their families and staff members assisting with the response.

The company added that it has activated its internal response procedures and is cooperating with Namibian authorities and emergency services to ensure that all necessary processes are followed.
