Happy International Transgender Day of Visibility! 🏳️‍⚧️

Today we celebrate the courage, strength, and beauty of transgender and gender-diverse people everywhere.

At Wings to Transcend Namibia, we honour the lives, voices, and resilience of our community. Visibility is more than being seen it is about being respected, protected, and embraced for who we are.

We stand proudly in our truth.
We continue to rise against discrimination.
And we remain committed to building a Namibia where transgender people can live freely, safely, and with dignity.

🏳️‍⚧️ Embrace Transgender Identity, Expression and Diversity.

Wings to Transcend Namibia is proudly represented here in South Africa 🇿🇦 as we continue to grow our regional presence and strengthen our movement ✨

As the Secretary of the Southern African Trans Forum (SATF), we are part of an important handover process—one that is deeply reflecting on institutional memory, governance realities, and surfacing core tensions within our regional work.

Day 2 has focused on ownership, fundraising priorities, and forward planning, ensuring that the Forum remains sustainable, accountable, and community-led.

As a regional partner, we are also intentionally bringing forward the lived realities of Namibia, making sure our context, challenges, and strengths are included in shaping the future of the region.

We are proud that our Executive Director, Princess Verquisha Veronica, is taking a leading role in this process—entrusted by the broader SATF membership to help guide this important moment.

This is more than representation—it is about influence, leadership, and building a stronger, united trans movement across Southern Africa 🏳️‍⚧️💙

Yesterday was a heavy day for us at Wings to Transcend Namibia.

While we were unable to attend in person due to prior commitments, our members and sister organizations were present in court, standing in solidarity and ensuring that the case continues to be followed closely.

The matter could not proceed as expected. The presiding judge had important questions that needed to be addressed; however, one of the accused’s lawyers was not present. As a result, the case has been postponed to 28 April, where proceedings will continue.

What has been deeply painful to witness is the wave of online comments that followed. The lack of compassion has been disturbing. Many chose to focus on the identity of the victim rather than acknowledging the loss of a human life. A life was taken, yet dignity and empathy were absent in many of the conversations we have seen.

We must remind ourselves: humanity comes first. Regardless of identity, every person deserves respect, protection, and justice.

As a community, we continue to call for stronger accountability and protection against harmful rhetoric. This is why we advocate for the passing of the Hate Speech Bill through the Ombudsman. We need legal frameworks that not only condemn violence but also address the language and narratives that enable it.

We remain committed. We will continue to stand, to speak, and to demand justice.

📅 Court resumes: 28 April

Today, we celebrate the independence of Namibia a nation built on resilience, courage, and the unwavering belief in freedom and dignity for all.

At Wings to Transcend Namibia (WTTN), we honor this day with both pride and reflection. Independence is not only a moment in history; it is a living promise one that calls on all of us to ensure that freedom is experienced equally, fully, and without fear.

As transgender and gender-diverse people, we continue to navigate spaces where that promise is not always realized. Yet, we remain visible, powerful, and rooted in the very spirit that birthed this nation, the spirit of resistance, of rising, of refusing to be erased.

We believe that true independence means more than sovereignty; it means inclusion. It means safety. It means dignity. It means that every Namibian, regardless of gender identity or expression, can live openly, access opportunities, and thrive without discrimination or violence.

We stand as part of this nation’s story not on the margins, but at its heart. Our existence, our voices, and our contributions are woven into the fabric of Namibia’s past, present, and future.

As we commemorate this day, we reaffirm our commitment to building a Namibia where no one is left behind. A Namibia where freedom is not selective, but shared. A Namibia where every trans and gender-diverse person can stand tall and say: we belong.

Happy Independence Day, Namibia 🇳🇦

Today marks a pivotal moment in Namibia’s democratic journey! 🇳🇦

🕘 Time: 09:00

🏛️ Event: Official opening of the Cabinet & the 3rd Session of the 8th Parliament

👤 Presiding: Her Excellency Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia — the first woman to hold this office in our nation’s history.

This gathering brings together the three arms of state — the executive, the legislature and the judiciary — to set the course for inclusive development, participatory democracy, and the laws that shape our collective future.

✨ A Reflection:

To be human in Namibia is to carry stories of resilience, community, and shared hope — stories that transcend borders and identities. And to be transgender in this country is to affirm that dignity and belonging are universal rights, not privileges. Today, as our leaders take their places in Parliament, we stand bigger than fear, louder than prejudice, and more determined than ever to ensure that our full humanity is recognised, protected, and celebrated.

📢 Let this opening be a call to action — not only for prosperity and justice — but for a Namibia where every person, including transgender Namibians, can thrive in safety, equality, and love. 🏳️‍⚧️

JUSTICE FOR SEXY FREDERICKS | JUSTICE FOR ALL TRANS LIVES

The case of Sexy Fredericks has been postponed to 18 February, as it was heard for the first time in the High Court. While delays are painful, we remain hopeful and vigilant that justice will prevail.

This case is not just about Sexy. It represents all trans lives that have been violated, silenced, and denied justice. Hate crimes must be treated as hate crimes, and the justice system must respond with urgency, dignity, and accountability.

This case is one of six documented cases that remain unresolved and unjustified. These are not statistics — they are lives. They are families. They are communities still waiting for justice.

The transgender community stands firmly with the family of Sexy Fredericks and with all families who continue to carry grief while seeking answers. We also acknowledge Queen’s case and reaffirm our commitment to follow up, document, and pursue justice in every hate crime case affecting trans and gender-diverse people.

We remain committed to engaging the justice system, meeting the courts halfway, and demanding accountability — because trans lives matter, and justice delayed is justice denied.

We will not be silent.
We will not be erased.
We will continue to demand justice

— loudly, boldly, and together.

Today on Desert FM, Deyonce Naris, a transgender rights activist, spoke about the brutal killing of Sexy Fredricks. Instead of people focusing on the violence and the demand for justice, the comments section chose a different route.

What we saw was intentional misgendering and degendering of Deyonce Naris.

Let us be very clear: Deyonce Naris is a transgender woman. Her identity is not up for debate. Misgendering is not comedy, it is not opinion, and it is not harmless. It is a deliberate act of disrespect meant to silence, humiliate, and dehumanize.

When trans people speak up against violence, and the response is mockery and misgendering, it exposes exactly why these conversations are necessary. This is the same mindset that creates an environment where transgender lives are treated as disposable.

You do not have to agree with someone to respect their humanity.

You do not have to understand to show basic dignity.

Focus on the issue.
Respect people’s identities.

And remember: trans lives are human lives.

🕯️ Justice for Sexy Fredricks. Respect for Deyonce Naris.

Down memory lane with Wings to Transcend Namibia.

In this video, the late Jholerina Brinnette Timbo reflects on how Wings to Transcend was born and how it was conceptualized. What started as a bold vision in response to exclusion and injustice grew into a trans-led movement advocating for dignity, visibility, and equal access to health, justice, and opportunity.

We honor her legacy, her courage, and the foundation she laid.
This is our story. Our roots. Our why.

Today, we are reminded that justice delayed is justice denied, but also that justice pursued still matters.

The case concerning the brutal killing of Sexy Fredricks, whose body was found in a riverbed in Otjomuise, is set to be heard in court on 21 January. This moment reopens a painful chapter, not only for her loved ones, but for the transgender community and all Namibians who believe in dignity, equality, and humanity.

The Constitution of the Republic of Namibia is clear: every person is born free and equal in dignity and rights. To be human under our Constitution means that your life has value, your body deserves protection, and your identity must never be used to justify violence. There are no exceptions. There are no footnotes.

Yet, too often, hate crimes against transgender and gender-diverse people are minimised, excused, or turned into scapegoats for prejudice and moral panic. Violence is rationalised instead of condemned. Victims are blamed instead of protected. Silence becomes an escape route for accountability.

This court hearing is not only about one case. It is about whether we, as a nation, are willing to uphold the Constitution beyond paper and into lived reality. It is about whether transgender lives are recognised as fully human, fully Namibian, and fully deserving of justice.

We call for accountability without bias, justice without delay, and a legal process that honours the life lost rather than erasing it. We also call on society to reflect deeply: hate is not culture, violence is not tradition, and discrimination is not freedom.

We remember Sexy Fredricks.
We demand justice.
And we will continue to fight for a Namibia where being human is never conditional.
