We do so by offering a combination of technical skills training, life skills, entrepreneurship and computer literacy. Young Africa Namibia contributes to a world of equality and shared wealth. We empower underprivileged young people with skills of the hands to make them self-reliant, skills of the heart and mind to live with dignity, skills of the soul to live with purpose. Young Africa aims to be
a model green vocational training centre. March 2014 we started our first course in solar technology in Walvisbay. We opened another centre in Otjiwarongo, in the heart of Orwetoveni township, old Clay house and turned it into the Young Africa Skills Centre, using green building techniques. These innovative techniques is taught to local entrepreneurs and be part of YA's skills training programme. Our model green skills training centre brings together local entrepreneurs, students and the community in one place. The centre offers practical and integral training in industrial and commercial skills. The departments are franchised to local entrepreneurs who operate their business from the centre while training young people on the job. In addition, the centre offers a range of services to the local community, such as a library, internet cafe, meeting space, festivals and awareness raising activities. The centre is managed by a local team and will become financially self-reliant through the rent that entrepreneurs pay. Next to our centre in Otjiwarongo, Young Africa currently runs six vibrant skills training centres; two in Zimbabwe and two in Mozambique, one in Botswana and another in Zambia. Together they reach out to 2500 youngsters on a daily basis. Founded in 1998, Young Africa has trained over 49, 000 young people.
