As part of YWEN Namibiaโ€™s Life Skills Bootcamp at Okongo ELCIN Parish, young people engaged with AMAZE videos exploring peer pressure and staying safe online. The interactive session created space for young people to reflect on the pressures they face, make informed choices and understand how to protect themselves in both physical and digital spaces.

Through open conversations and shared reflections, participants learned that it is okay to say NO, seek help and speak up when something does not feel right. These conversations are helping young people build the confidence and life skills they need to navigate their relationships, friendships and online spaces safely.Amaze Parents Africa Amaze Africa

Over the weekend , YWEN Namibia kicked off a two-day Life Skills Bootcamp at Okongo ELCIN Parish, bringing together 60 adolescent girls and young women, boys and young men to create a safe space for learning, reflection and honest conversations.

Participants explored how harmful norms and power inequalities can contribute to violence and how we can collectively build relationships and communities rooted in respect, equality and safety. Day 1 was about understanding, challenging and taking action.๐Ÿ’œ

Last week marked International Youth Day 2026. YWEN commemorated the day with young people in Onyaanya under the theme of youth-led technological entrepreneurship. Participants explored livelihood opportunities through recycling, learning how to transform waste materials into beautiful necklaces while building creativity, practical skills, and environmental sustainability. We are grateful to Her Voice Fund and Y+ Global for their continued commitment to uplifting, investing in, and empowering young people. Together, we can create spaces where young people are empowered to innovate, learn, and lead.

As part of our commitment to combating GBV, we are also addressing the economic vulnerabilities that can place young women at greater risk. Some young mothers received chickens to start small-scale poultry farming, creating an opportunity to generate income and support their families.
Additionally, all participants received hygiene care packages as part of our holistic approach to supporting their wellbeing and dignity.

Scenes from Day 2 & 3 of our camp ๐ŸŒฑ

We unpacked how harmful cultural practices and gender norms can contribute to GBV within our households and communities, while also creating space for open conversations around HIV prevention. We explored PrEP and PEPas HIV prevention options and the importance of young women having the knowledge and agency to make informed choices about their health.

Knowledge is power. Choice is prevention. โœŠ๐Ÿพ

On Friday, YWEN kicked off a three-day camp with young women and young mothers from Ekoka and Onghulushe villages in Okongo. The camp forms part of our continued commitment to combating Gender-Based Violence by creating spaces for young women to engage, learn, and reflect on the issues affecting their lives.

Through the camp, we are addressing interconnected challenges such as HIV prevention, contraceptive access, harmful cultural norms, poverty, and unemployment; recognising these as important social and economic factors that can increase vulnerability to violence.

Parents, if your daughter had a period stain at home, would your first reaction be anger or support? Would your son defend his sister like this?

Fact: Period leaks can happen even when a girl prepares well. How we respond can either shame her or help her feel safe.

๐Ÿ“ข Join us for the launch of the HER Voice Fund Impact Assessment Webinar as we reflect on the findings and impact of the 2022โ€“2025 HER Voice Fund Strategy.

At a time when adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in sub-Saharan Africa continue to face disproportionately high HIV incidence and remain underrepresented in health decision-making, this conversation is more important than ever. We will explore key lessons, impact, and the way forward for strengthening AGYW leadership, representation, and resourcing across HIV, TB, malaria, and broader health responses.
