Hosting MICT for a digital literacy course at the Conservation Centre. Continuing with our vision of providing learning opportunities for everyone. Thanks to MICT Hardap Regional Office for this partnership.

This past week a flock of ostriches was released at ProNamib Nature Reserve. A whimsical name for a flock of ostriches is ‘a wobble of ostriches’. They arrived a day before a cold front was due to land so conditions were cold and crisp for their release. Thanks to Simon Wildlife for a quick delivery and smooth release. On the 20th June the Conservation Centre and team hosted the first Spelling Bee in Maltahohe. An enthusiastic group of children, ranging from grade 4 to grade 11 spent their Saturday morning with us. Our theme was "Desert", with words from flora to geomorphology being spelt the standards were high. Our judges, Ms. Alwina Witbooi, from the Ministry of Health and Soscial Services, and Mr Simeon Neumbo, a ranger based in Maltahohe, from Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, took their roles seriously and deliberated with dedication and care. This was an event which we will host again!

ProNamib Nature Reserve has been on the receiving end of an immense amount of rain. Roads have become rivers, otherwise dry plains resemble marshes and empty borrow pits are now small lakes. It is one of nature’s gifts to us to be see the transformation from dry and golden to lush and green.

On the 28th November, the ProNamib Community Foundation welcomed the first group of kids on an interactive and collaborative adventure. As a reward for their diligence and consistency in making use of all the facilitated learning opportunities we offer at the Conservation Centre in Maltahohe, they received a trip to NaDEET - a hub of sustainable environmental education in the desert, a space to learn about the wonders of nature and the borders of Maltahohe. We are proud of their continued efforts and their tenacity. We are deeply grateful to for hosting the kids, for shaping this adventure and being open to an exciting collaborative effort that has the potential to have a long term impact! 📷 Denesha and Lee
