A few days ago, through the support of ORKCA and in collaboration with the women of the Nederduitse Gereformeerde Warmbad Church, selected community members, including the elderly and young children, received blankets for the winter season due to the harsh winter conditions in the area.

A big thank you to the ORKCA team and the women of the NG church for the partnership and for making this possible.

These beautiful camera trap photos were taken over the past month and capture great wildlife sightings in the area.

It is always wonderful to see wildlife gathering around the water points, with more young ones and growing herds over time.

A big shoutout to the ground team for their regular check-ups on the water points and for making sure there is always water available for the wildlife

Peter Cunningham, ORKCA’s Conservation & Research Coordinator, has been conducting a step-point vegetation survey to assess habitat condition and sustainable grazing capacity.

This survey records and identifies grass species along fixed transects( (predetermined straight-line paths across the land that are surveyed repeatedly over time) to determine how much grazing the land can support over a one-year period, while also supporting long-term conservation and management efforts (practices aimed at sustainably maintaining and improving the health and productivity of natural grazing land).

It is exciting to see this work helping us better understand the landscape while supporting healthy ecosystems and sustainable land use for the future.

A big shoutout to the ground team for their incredible work in making this field effort possible.

ORKCA, in collaboration with BW Kudu Limited, is working to improve community livelihoods and climate resilience through water support and the establishment of community gardens in the //Gamaseb Conservancy area, benefiting the communities of Lekkerlag and Lemoendoring.

As part of this initiative, ORKCA hosted a gardening workshop at the conservancy headquarters in Gabis on Friday, 24 April 2026.

The training was led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water & Land Reform and was aimed to equip participants with essential gardening knowledge and skills.

It combined both theoretical and practical sessions, including soil health, the practical use of garden tools, seedbed preparation, compost making and maintenance using waste, and crop rotation.

The day ended with hands-on learning, as participants practised and exchanged ideas on how to grow and maintain their own gardens.

A huge thanks to BW Kudu Limited, MAWLR, the ORKCA team and the community members for making this possible.

The Grade 7 learners from Michel Durocher Primary School in Warmbad visited ORKCA HQ on the 8th of April. This marked the start of the annual Nama - !Garib Geopark educational programme. The programme introduces yearly school visits from surrounding communities to raise awareness about conservation and ORKCA’s work.

During the visit, learners went on a game drive and learned about the importance of animal tracking, the use of water points, and why these are important for protecting wildlife and supporting the environment.

ORKCA, in collaboration with BW Kudu Limited, is actively working to improve access to clean water and enhance food security in the communities of Lekkerlag and Lemoendoring within //Gamaseb Conservancy, as part of efforts to support community development and environmental resilience initiatives in southern Namibia.

On 1 April 2026, community members came together at Gabis Conservancy Headquarters for a cook-off event and movie screening. The day was filled with hands-on activities as participants shared gardening tips, exchanged ideas, and demonstrated creative ways to cook vegetables that can be grown at home.

Seedlings were distributed to support the development of personal gardens, empowering the community to cultivate their own fresh produce.

The day ended with a screening of the following documentaries: Rolex Presents-ORKCA: Rewilding a Desert, Ours Not Mine (), and The Plant Shepherd (), bringing the community together to celebrate their shared learning and experiences.

A big shoutout to BW Energy, the ORKCA team, and the community members for making this possible.
