🦁🌍 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲 – 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞

This year, Namibian Lion Trust celebrates the Kunene Lion Rangers and the management teams who support them — dedicated men and women working to protect lions from retaliatory killings while encouraging improved livestock management and coexistence with farmers.

Covering vast distances on foot and responding rapidly, often at night, to prevent livestock losses, these dedicated Rangers spend weeks away from their homes, families and own livestock.

Their commitment is unwavering: to reduce conflict, protect communities and keep Namibia’s last desert-adapted lions alive. 🦁🌿

Rangers: Guardians of a Changing Planet

Across Namibia’s vast landscapes, Lion Rangers stand on the frontline of conservation — protecting wildlife, supporting communities, and helping build a future where people and predators can coexist.

Their work happens far beyond the spotlight.
Through heat, drought, long days in the field, and the challenges of human-wildlife conflict, they remain committed to protecting the balance between people and nature.

They are observers, protectors, educators, and ambassadors for the wild.

Today, we honour the courage and dedication of all rangers around the world — and especially the Namibian Lion Trust Rangers who work tirelessly to safeguard Namibia’s lions and their shared landscapes. 🦁🌿

🔬🦁 Understanding lion health, behaviour and movements is essential to protecting Namibia's free-ranging lions. Behind every successful monitoring operation is a team of dedicated researchers and wildlife veterinarians working to ensure each lion is handled safely and ethically.

The knowledge gained helps us reduce human–lion conflict, guide conservation decisions, and build a future where people and lions can coexist.

🦁🐾 Every footprint leaves a clue.

A lion’s tracks are more than marks in the sand — they are pieces of a much bigger story. By studying the size and shape of paw prints, researchers can gather valuable insights into an individual lion, including possible age and s*x.

These small signs help conservationists understand how lions move through the landscape, how they use their habitat, and how best to protect them.

In the wild, even a single footprint can reveal a world of information. 🌿

🦁 The roar is fading.

Once found across three continents, lions have disappeared from more than 90% of their historic range. Today, fewer than 25,000 wild lions remain across Africa, with the species classified as Vulnerable.

But the story of lions is not over.

Through research, community partnerships, conflict mitigation, and conservation action, we can help protect these iconic predators and the landscapes they depend on.

The future of the lion depends on the choices we make today. 🌍
