📚How long does it take to get to school?

For some students, getting to school means traveling long distances every day.
When that journey is made on foot, the time and effort involved can make access to school more difficult, especially in rural communities.

A bicycle can help make that journey faster and more accessible.

Through its mobility projects, Mozambikes supports students facing these barriers by using bicycles as a tool to facilitate access to education.

Because when the journey to school becomes more accessible, it also opens up opportunities to learn, participate, and keep going. 🚲

During his trip, Fernando isn’t just covering kilometers. He’s also observing how bicycles are used in the daily lives of local communities.

Along the way, he has been documenting, through photography, different ways bicycles are used in small businesses and economic activities.

These examples show that a bicycle can be much more than just a means of transportation. It can help someone go further, transport goods, make work easier, and create income opportunities.

This is also the idea we want to bring to Mozambique: using bicycles as a tool for mobility and opportunity.

The campaign has already reached 28 bicycles. We’ll keep pedaling. 💚🚲

🚲These bicycles were assembled at the Mozambikes factory as part of an initiative involving partners such as the Aga Khan Foundation and the Wiwanana Foundation.

From preparing the components to assembly and final adjustments, each bicycle passed through the hands of our team, following the production process before being delivered.

For us, every project represents an opportunity to put our expertise in bicycle production to work for initiatives that seek to address different needs in Mozambique.

🚲Fernando´s journey continues, and every kilometer brings a new experience.

After passing by Cotopaxi, Fernando cycled up to an altitude of 4.300 meters, facing dirt roads, strong winds, and the demanding conditions of the Andes.

Amid challenges, communities, and unique landscapes, the bicycle remains his constant companion on this journey.

And as he cycles through South America, the goal remains the same: to turn these kilometers into mobility and opportunities for children in Mozambique.

We’ve already provided 28 bicycles. 💚

The journey continues. And every contribution helps us ride a little farther.

💧 A bicycle isn’t just for the ride to school

🚲 For many families, the bicycle a student receives ends up becoming part of the entire family routine.

During our follow-up, we found that bicycles are also used for other daily needs, including fetching water, traveling to health clinics, and helping with various household chores. This shows that the value of a bicycle can extend beyond the journey between home and school.

🌍 When a bicycle reaches a family, it can become a tool to meet various needs and facilitate access to services and opportunities.

⏰ What happens when a child gains time?

🚲 For a student who travels several kilometers every day, reducing commute time can mean much more than just arriving at school earlier.

It means arriving with more energy to follow along in class, having more time to study and rest, and, in some cases, simply being able to maintain a more regular school routine. During our visits to Mapupulo and Mahossine, we heard several students describe how bicycles have made their commutes faster and less tiring.

📚 When we reduce the time spent commuting, we free up time for what happens after they arrive at school: learning, participating, and continuing to dream.
