Our Anti-Poaching Unit recently found a hyena caught in a gin trap. After tracking it down, the animal was safely darted, the wound was cleaned and treated, and before long it was back on its feet and heading into the bush.

Gin traps are extremely dangerous because they clamp onto an animal’s limb with tremendous force, often causing severe injuries and prolonged suffering.

A big thank you to everyone involved in locating, treating and releasing this hyena. This is exactly why constant patrols and boots on the ground remain so important.

Following the discovery of this lion caught in a gin trap in a neighbouring area, every effort is now focused on giving him the best possible chance of survival.

We remain hopeful for a positive outcome and will continue to share his progress.

A healthy ecosystem can be seen in the skies above it.

The remarkable birdlife across Zambeze Delta Safaris is an important indicator of ecosystem health. Diverse, functioning habitats provide birds with the food, water, nesting sites and shelter they need to thrive.

From raptors and waterbirds to insect- and seed-eating species, each plays a role controlling insect and rodent populations, dispersing seeds, pollinating plants and cycling nutrients.

When bird diversity is strong, it is often a sign that the wider ecosystem is functioning as it should. Protecting habitat means protecting the entire web of life that depends on it.

With some of our cameras almost completely submerged under water, and many of the roads inaccessible by vehicle, we had to use a helicopter to access a few of these sites.

Pangolin Release

This pangolin was confiscated from poachers and has been successfully released back into the wild.

This species is quite abundant in the Zambezi Delta, with over 20 sightings of wild pangolins reported in 2025. A testament to the ongoing protection efforts of the Anti-Poaching unit.
