This is the reality we face most of the days and it’s really a challenge, When we go into communities, especially rural areas and villages, we often find elderly people abandoned, rejected, and living completely alone. In most cases, the situations we encounter are heartbreaking. Many of these elderly women have suffered severe abuse — physically, emotionally, and even sexually. The trauma they carry from years of isolation, fear, shame, and neglect is unimaginable.
Sadly, this is not rare. It is a reality at our doorstep.
Many of the elderly people who have come through our hands — including some who have since passed on — have endured suffering that no human being should ever experience. They have been neglected, mistreated, forgotten, and left without protection or support.
What makes it even more painful is the silence surrounding these injustices. Too often, people see these situations as normal or unavoidable and choose not to act. But we cannot continue to ignore this crisis.
We need greater awareness. We need communities to speak up. We need stronger protection for elderly women and vulnerable elderly people. And we need to come together to fight against these injustices with compassion, dignity, and urgency.
At Elevate Africa, it is our mandate to stand alongside these elderly individuals — to provide support, protection, counseling, and care. We are committed not only to meeting physical needs, but also to helping address the deep emotional and psychological trauma they carry.
It is painful. It is heavy. But it is real. And it is a reality we can no longer ignore.
