How do we know when a displaced person has truly found a solution?
Durable solutions go beyond returning home or settling somewhere new. We need to understand whether people can rebuild their lives safely, with access to services, livelihoods and opportunities.
This week, INGD, UNHCR, IOM, UNDP, UN Habitat and partners conducted a joint assessment in pre-identified areas of Cabo Delgado through the Internal Displacement Solutions Fund (IDSF), looking at these conditions and supporting implementation of the Government’s Action Plan on internal displacement.
Today, at the 6th plenary meeting of the Cabo Delgado Solutions Working Group, led by INGD and co-led by UNHCR, IOM and UNDP, partners came around the same table to reflect on initial findings, discuss challenges and agree on the way forward.
Because advancing solutions requires more than counting how many people have returned. It means understanding whether those solutions are safe, sustainable and allow families to rebuild their lives.
