In it to end the exploitation of women in Northern Mozambique ❌

The Liberty Project © is a small faith based non profit based in Nacala northern Mozambique. Our heart is to see young women Liberated from abuse, exploitation and cultural oppression. We work to empower each woman through discipleship, education, skills training and employment in social enterprise. It's estimated that around 98% of Mozambican females have been sexually abused; wether it be from

cultural ceremony, sexual exploitation, or through the 'norms' of womanhood that culture perpetrates. Our goal is to educate girls of their immense value and equip them spiritually, emotionally and physically to have a future free from transactional relationships and bo***ge. The worst part about receiving volunteers… Is having to say goodbye! Our project is blessed to receive people who come to visit us just to invest their skills into our team and our work, to help us grow and to help girls flourish. Thank you .zing for sharing your expertise with us! We’re grateful to have you as part of our extended Liberty family!

What’s in the bag?!

Only the biggest bunch of bananas we’ve ever grown at the Liberty Centre!! 🍌🍌This variety are plantains. Theyre big, sweet, delicious! Our team’s enjoyed eating them and putting them to good use in this week‘s hospitality class! Banana muffins and banana fritters for the ladies to learn! 🍌

It’s been a couple of really exciting weeks for us as a team!

Not only have we kicked off the 2026 Freedom Program, but we’ve also purchased land and officially taken over the property that will become our Liberty Community House — Casa de Liberdade.

In the coming months, we’ll begin drawing up plans and starting construction, with the hope of opening later in the year.

We’re so expectant for what this space will become — a place of care, restoration, and new beginnings — where young girls in our community can find true freedom, discover their worth, and begin to flourish.

A huge thank you to everyone in New Zealand who has so generously given towards this project — we’re so excited for this new chapter at The Liberty Project!

Last week we kicked off the 2026 Freedom Program, welcoming 11 new women into a new season together. This is a really special milestone for us — the largest group we’ve ever had step into the program, and we’re so excited for what’s ahead!!

Over the next three months, we’ll be walking closely side by side as we explore identity and purpose, learn about health, begin English, and grow in practical life skills like budgeting and professionalism, alongside an introduction to hospitality and artisanal vocational training.

The studio has been full of energy lately, with some of our artisanal development graduates busy creating pieces for The Liberty Design Studio. It’s been such a good season of learning, practicing, and putting their skills into action.

At the same time, we’re getting ready to welcome a new group of women into the Freedom Program at the beginning of April — which is always a really special (and full!) time for our team.

We’d really appreciate your prayers as we prepare — for the details, the team, and the women who will be joining us.

🌸 The reality for women in northern Mozambique 🌸

Less than 25% of women have regular salaried jobs. Most survive in informal or subsistence work, earning under US $2/day, which limits their ability to make safe choices for themselves and their families.

At The Liberty Project, we believe every woman deserves dignity, freedom from exploitation, and fair opportunity. Through skills training in vocations — from beauty and hospitality to artisanal design — women gain independence and step into empowerment and purpose.

In our Liberty lounge sit women who once said “yes” to a journey of courage. 🌸

These are Liberty graduates — women who walked through transformational months of discipleship, health and English classes, and hands-on training in artisanal development and hospitality. Today, they carry confidence, sisterhood, and a deeper understanding of their worth and God’s good plans for their lives. They have tangible skills and are in a stronger position to earn a living and support themselves with dignity.

And now… we’re just weeks away from beginning our 2026 Freedom Program.

We’ve interviewed 16 women from extremely vulnerable backgrounds — women who have faced hardship, instability, and deep injustice — and after much prayer and discernment, we are preparing to welcome 10 of them into this next three-month journey to Freedom.

Each woman will step into a safe space to grow — discovering her identity, strengthening her voice, gaining practical skills, and building foundations for a sustainable future.

We are so expectant for what God will do in this next group. It is holy ground to walk alongside a woman as she begins to believe she is seen, valued, and created with purpose.

We’re soon kicking off our Freedom Program for 2026 and looking for hospitality professionals—or passionate home bakers and cooks—to help us give the girls an exciting introduction to hospitality. From coffee and service to baking and meal prep, your guidance can inspire them to discover their potential, build confidence, and take their first steps toward freedom, independence, and brighter futures.

Flexible volunteer periods from 2 weeks to 2 months, between April and July, offer a chance to make a real impact while experiencing a little adventure along the way. 💛

✨ Step into the heart of northern Mozambique ✨

In the bustling local markets, the air is rich with tropical fruits, spices, and the energy of everyday life. Children play with handmade soccer balls along dusty roads and on the beaches, laughter and movement weaving through the community. Sunny blue skies, swaying palm and banana trees, and white beaches stretch toward the horizon, simple and breathtaking.

As the day winds down, Mozambique’s pink and orange sunsets light up the sky, best enjoyed from our Sunset Terrace — a perfect close to a day of adventure and connection.

By volunteering with The Liberty Project, you can experience this vibrant culture for yourself — weekdays at the women’s centre empowering girls and women, and weekends exploring the village, beaches, and local life.
