In it to end the exploitation of women in Northern Mozambique ❌

The Liberty Project © is a small faith based non profit based in Nacala northern Mozambique. Our heart is to see young women Liberated from abuse, exploitation and cultural oppression. We work to empower each woman through discipleship, education, skills training and employment in social enterprise. It's estimated that around 98% of Mozambican females have been sexually abused; wether it be from cultural ceremony, sexual exploitation, or through the 'norms' of womanhood that culture perpetrates. Our goal is to educate girls of their immense value and equip them spiritually, emotionally and physically to have a future free from transactional relationships and bo***ge. ✨ Ima — Artisanal Development Lead
From beautiful Capulana creations to embroidered handcrafted baskets, Ima teaches our students and interns to turn creativity into skill, and skill into opportunity.

✨ Laura — Founder & Director
Alongside leading The Liberty Project, Laura gets hands-on in our Beauty Department, teaching nail techniques and leading our Hospitality Training Programmes.

✨ Becca — Beauty Department Lead
A professional masseuse for 15 years, Becca leads our Beauty Training Programme, equipping women with practical skills to build their futures in the beauty industry.

✨ Azanita — Caring for Our Little Ones
While their mothers study, train and work, Azanita lovingly cares for the little ones who come through our doors. Her role makes it possible for mothers to learn and grow, knowing their babies are in caring hands.

✨ Dorca — Hospitality Department
our newest addition to team Liberty; Dorca’s story is a beautiful picture of transformation in action. Having graduated from both our Freedom Programme and Hospitality Training Programme, she went on to spend a year as head pizza chef at The Liberty Cafe. Now, she has joined our leadership team to oversee kitchen administration and lead hospitality activities in our upcoming Liberty Community House.

These women bring so much more than knowledge and practical skills. They bring heart, dedication, creativity, leadership and a genuine commitment to seeing other women flourish.

Today, we celebrate each of them and the unique gifts they bring to The Liberty Project. We’re so grateful for the women who pour into others, share what they know and help create opportunities for the next generation.

It’s coming up to that time of year again 🎄 when the girls in our design studio are busy making new patterns and stock for the Christmas season! 🙏🏼Pray for Ima and her interns as they navigate new things like prototyping new designs and meetings deadlines, and of course for new orders to be placed to provide jobs for the women we work with ❤️

Intern update! ✨

Zainate and Anna are going strong in the design studio under Ima’s watchful eye! Here they are learning how to create our colourful collection of w**e coolers from scratch. Hand-stitching the inner foam, cutting the fabric panels, and carefully machine-stitching the 100% cotton webbing handles. It’s a labour of love!

These girls are advancing so well, and we’re really seeing them come out of their shells as they gain confidence in a new skill and become part of the team. It’s been encouraging to see them finding their feet in the studio and taking on new challenges.

There is so much happening in this little corner of Nacala. 🤍

The rubble you see here is what remains of the old mud cottage that once stood on this land. It has been cleared to make way for our upcoming Community Centre — a place where girls will be welcomed, mentored, encouraged and given the opportunity to flourish.

And in the distance, you can see a beautiful new addition to the property. This concrete block house is currently being renovated to become our Women’s Home — a place of safety, provision and dignity for vulnerable women who are in need of housing. Swipe to see some of the progress!

What you see today is only the beginning of what God is building here, and we’re honored to be part of it!

Please pray with us over the coming months — for all the documentation and approvals needed for the Community Centre, for the right additions to our construction team, and for every detail of the building process to come together smoothly.

Our prayer is that everything will be ready for the opening at the end of November.

An idea can become a skill. A skill can become an opportunity.

Many of the designs we create begin with an idea — a sketch, an inspiration, a piece of fabric, or simply a thought of “I wonder if we could make this?”

Ima (head of our Artisanal Development Department) is the one who takes that idea and works out how to make it real. She develops the pattern, figures out the construction and creates the first prototype.

And then she teaches others 🤍

Through our Artisanal Development training, Ima passes these skills on to the women and girls we work with, giving them the opportunity to learn, create and develop skills they can use to earn an income and support themselves and their children.

This is her latest creation — the very first prototype of a new design 😍

What we love most isn’t just what Ima has made...

We love that one woman’s skill becomes another woman’s opportunity.

This is freedom!!

10 YEARS OF THE LIBERTY PROJECT ✨

Today we celebrated 10 years of The Liberty Project — a decade of watching God faithfully lead, provide, open doors, and transform lives.

What began with Laura, a sewing machine and a local tailor on a front veranda has grown, step by step, into a ministry reaching vulnerable women and girls in Northern Mozambique. From our first three women at Collective Africa, to the Freedom Program, Hospitality training and the first opening of The Liberty café in Pemba, working with displaced wowen through the challenges of COVID, and then our move to Nacala in 2021 where we have been able to construct our purposed built women’s centre, cafe and salon; God has faithfully carried us every step of the way!

But when we look back, it isn’t the buildings, programs or businesses that move us most. It’s the women.

Women who have discovered freedom and a new sense of identity. Women who have learned skills, started businesses and are now helping provide for their families. Women who have found safe community and discipleship. Women who have stepped into confidence, discovered their gifts and begun to imagine a different future for themselves and their children with a new found identity as a daughter of God!

This is the beautiful fruit of these ten years.

And none of it has happened alone. Every life changed has been touched by the prayers, generosity, service and partnership of people who chose to believe in what God was doing.

So today, we simply say thank you.

Thank you for walking with us through these ten years.

As we look toward Liberty House, our upcoming community centre for girls, and safe homes for vulnerable women, we are filled with expectation for what is still to come.

Ten years behind us. A beautiful harvest already growing. And we truly believe we’re only just beginning. 🤍

✨Today is a really exciting day at The Liberty Project! ✨Very recently, we have just been overwhelmed by Gods provision, and the blessings of those who partner with us in our work!

We were approached by the neighbor of the property that we’ve purchased for Liberty House, our upcoming community space for girls aged 8 to 16 years, with the offer to purchase his property. We didn’t have the money to make the purchase, so politely declined, BUT a week later we were asked by somebody what our needs were. We were able to share this beautiful opportunity with the vision of extending the community centre yard and renovating this property to become housing for vulnerable women in need. We have had several occasions where women in our programs are not safe in their current housing and we are now so excited and grateful to be able to in future offer housing for them in a safe environment!

We are just so blown away by God‘s love for His girls! That He would go to these lengths to orchestrate this is just a beautiful reminder of His goodness and His good plans for the women and families of Northern Mozambique!

A picture of hope. 💛

Meet Zainate and her beautiful two-month-old daughter, Thalita.

Zainate is one of the women in our internship programme at the Liberty Design Studio, under the leadership of our Artisanal Department Leader and Design Studio Manager, Ima.

This photo captures so much more than a sewing lesson.

It tells the story of a mother beginning a new chapter. A place where she can learn, be encouraged, and build a future, while holding close the little girl who inspires so much of that journey.

We believe that freedom is not simply leaving the past behind. It is discovering hope, purpose, and the opportunity to build a different future.

We are believing that the freedom God is bringing to Zainate’s life today will become part of the legacy Thalita grows up knowing—a legacy of hope, dignity, and His faithfulness from one generation to the next.

This is only the beginning, and we are expectant for all that lies ahead.

“They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendour.” — Isaiah 61:3

One generation empowering the next. 💛

In May 2025, Mariamo graduated from our Hospitality Training Program. Today, she is the manager of The Liberty Café.

Here she is meeting with Olinda, one of our newest Freedom Program graduates, who has just been awarded a six-month hospitality internship with us.

We are so proud of Mariamo and the growth she has experienced over the past year, and so excited to see how Olinda grows through this internship. Two young women we are deeply proud of, and we believe God has such bright futures ahead for them. These are just two examples of why we do what we do.

This isn’t simply an internship. It’s a pathway toward freedom. As women gain practical skills, meaningful employment, and a supportive community, they also gain something so important: the power to choose a different future for themselves and their families.

We are deeply grateful for everyone who has walked with us in this journey. Your support is creating lasting change, one life at a time.

We are currently looking for four sponsors for our new interns. A **monthly stipend of US$50—around US$13 per week—**helps cover transport and essential needs at home, making it possible for them to complete this six-month training season.
