Iris Dondo, Sofala Province, Central Mozambique
We have a missionary team of 16 currently, along with our wonderful Mozambican staff and volunteers. We have free housing and kitchen facilities for visitors, functioning solely on donations as you feel led. Go to “Contacts” to find more information. The following descriptions will give you a taste of what we do here. Visitors are welcome to join i
n with any of the following ministries. Widows Ministry:
Twice a month we have food distribution for 160 widows and disabled people in the Dondo area. Sometimes help is also given to fix up or rebuild houses that have been damaged. (Their houses, made of mud with straw roofs, don’t last long.) We also visit and pray for those who are sick, or take them to the hospital when necessary. Besides helping them physically, spiritual food is given through discipleship as they gather in small groups for worship with our missionary, Isla Farley and her co-worker, Joaquim. Pre-school:
A pre-school is offered at our center for vulnerable children from our community. Currently we have one class, but hope to expand to two next year. These children receive a free breakfast, a morning of classes, bible stories, play time, and a good healthy lunch before heading home. Hospital Ministry:
Hospital ministry continues every week. Visitors are welcome to join in as we visit with love and prayers for the sick. We have seen many healings and salvations - even some people with terminal illnesses! Medical Training / Community Clinic:
We have two missionary doctors, husband and wife, from Argentina. They are teaching a 1 1/2 year medical/nutrition course to a group of Mozambican volunteers. Besides class instruction, they also do practicum in the nearby clinic. We hope to open our own clinic soon here at our center. The clinic is built, but we have some red tape to get through before we can open. We also still need supplies. Thank you for your prayers on this. Evangelism:
Evangelism teams take the gospel to neighboring communities with the Jesus film, children’s programs, preaching, praying for the sick, and home visitations. Visitors are welcome to join in, sharing their testimonies with a translator, praying, etc. Churches are easily birthed as many respond to the love and power of Jesus shown to them. Discipleship Training Centers:
On-going discipleship for pastors and church leaders make up the core of this center’s energies. We continue with development and recording of audio materials, hosting and teaching week long seminars on the Bible, and training small group leaders with discipleship booklets. The local small group leaders are trained at our center, but we also go out to the neighboring provinces of Manica and Zambezia to conduct more training. These leaders are given materials to lead their own groups in their own communities. Solar powered audio bibles with our recorded courses are given to leaders with the agreement that they will use them with a group of listeners. Recently, with the help of ICM, new units have come out with a mini Bible school course in the Portuguese language. Pastors and teachers who have completed our foundational discipleship courses will soon begin leading small audio Bible schools. In a culture where the majority are illiterate, this is revolutionary. We are so thankful to those who have gone before us in translating, recording, and developing solar powered audio players with the Bible and discipleship courses! Already in less than a year, we see God multiplying these Discipleship Centers to over 100! We are excited to be a part of this amazing work God is doing here. Children’s Center:
Previously this center has put a major focus on our children’s center - 30 boys whom we cared for. The older ones are now in college, vocational training, or reunited with their families. Most of the younger ones have been reintegrated to members of their extended families, as is the desire of Social Services here in Mozambique. All children’s centers in this country are now only allowed to be temporary transition centers until suitable extended family members are found. Children’s Ministry/Training:
Our Center also offers training in Children’s Ministry and Worship.
