✊ Stop the Injustice at Forbes Border Post!
As Associação de Direitos da Vida Humana (Mozambique), we can no longer stay silent about the serious problems travelers face at Forbes Border Post when entering or leaving Zimbabwe.
🚨 Here is the reality on the ground:
Travelers submit their Temporary Import Permits (TIPs) when leaving Zimbabwe. These are stamped on paper, but often not cancelled in the electronic system.
Next time you enter, you are accused of having a “pending TIP.” This creates delays, humiliation, and suspicion against innocent travelers who followed the rules.
🕒 The TIP counter is almost always unattended.
People wait for long periods with no help.
At night, while the border claims to operate 24 hours, the officers responsible are often sleeping instead of serving the public.
Travelers are forced to beg unrelated officials for assistance, which creates confusion and opens the door to abuse.
⚠️ This is more than poor service. It is a violation of people’s dignity, rights, and freedom of movement. Civil society groups like ours, who travel for workshops, seminars, and human rights missions, are being blocked by inefficiency and negligence. Ordinary citizens, traders, and families are suffering too.
👉 We demand action from ZIMRA and border authorities NOW:
Cancel TIPs properly in both paper and electronic systems.
Give travelers a way to confirm that their TIP is cleared before leaving Zimbabwe.
Ensure the TIP cancellation counter is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—not left empty.
Train and monitor officers so the process is transparent, fair, and consistent.
Borders should not be places of frustration, intimidation, and abuse. They should be places of service, accountability, and respect for human right
