Urgent Appeal for Baby Uzair (May-July 2026)

Refugee Emergency Fund - REF has been raising funds for two refugee children needing heart surgeries and treatment. Alhamdulillah, we managed to raise enough for the first child, Joshua, to have his surgery a few weeks ago in April. Funds being collected now is for Baby Uzair.

✳️ Uzair is an 8-month old baby (born in Nov 2025) who was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot or “hole-in-the-heart”, a serious congenital heart condition requiring corrective heart surgery. The estimated cost for his surgery (which has been discounted) is *RM65,000*. He is currently booked for this surgery in June-July 2026. Uzair’s parents are refugees with no stable income, so are unable to pay for this themselves. They have already been struggling to cover the cost of treatments for him so far.

After paying for the first surgery, the amount we have for Baby Uzair is just RM1,340…
a long way away still from the target amount needed in the next 1-2 months. 🥺

Salam Jumaat everyone… Alhamdulillah, we have 1 more portion to fill to get to 2 cows for Qurbani this year to be distributed among the Al-Ikhlas refugee community in Batu Caves. Might anyone be interested to take up this final one? It will be RM950, and covers not just the price of the Qurban portion but some extra (sedekah) to transport the meat after the sacrifice from the farm in Rawang on Hari Raya Haji and the manpower / tenaga kerja among the refugee community later that day to cut, pack and distribute the meat after. *AHS Eid Ul-Adha 1447H Qurbani Donation Drive*

Al-Ikhlas Hope Society is hoping to get 2-3 cows, InsyaAllah, for Qurban this coming Eid Ul-Adha (10 Zulhijjah 1447G / 27-29 May 2026), to be distributed among the Rohingya & Myanmar Muslim refugee families living in the Al-Ikhlas School community in Taman Sri Murni, Batu Caves.

That would be 7 Udhiyah portions per cow @ RM950 per portion. This amount includes fees for the qurban, transport and the community members to prepare/cook the meat prior to distribution (supervised by the community leader and school principal Arfat Ganumia).

Payments for the Udhiyah portions (one portion or more) can be made through our society’s bank account as provided in poster attached and as shown below:

Alhamdulillah, we were most honoured to receive a visit from Sheikh Shadi, the head of Imams Australia, at Al-Ikhlas School, on Wednesday 13th May. Thank you to the Australian High Commission in Malaysia for including us in Sheikh’s busy tour of KL. The students and teachers as well as the society volunteers truly appreciated the advice from Sheikh Shadi to “Iqra’”, ie. to read and seek knowledge, Allah’s first command to the Prophet Muhammad SAW, during the short but powerful speech that he gave. InsyaAllah. 🤲🏼💐

📚Al-Ikhlas School is a UNHCR-recognised learning centre based in Taman Sri Murni, Batu Caves with mainly the Rohingya and Myanmar Muslim community living in its vicinity.

Come watch cultural performances, a panel discussion featuring refugee community members (where you can ask questions!), some traditional food as well as a little exhibition.

Al-Ikhlas School Sponsor-An-Iftar-Meal 2026 Update (23/2/2026):

Alhamdulillah, 450 packs of Iftar meals have been distributed among the refugee students and families living in and around Al-Ikhlas School .official thanks to the kind donations received over the past few weeks to sponsor these meals. Different chefs, mostly from the refugee community have been contracted to cook the meals, those from the past 4 days being:

1 Ramadhan (Thurs): Chicken Mandy Rice by Chef Shaima (Yemeni) (100 packs)

2 Ramadhan (Fri): Rice, fried chicken and cucumber by Ustaz Arfat & team (Rohingya) (100 packs)

3 Ramadhan (Sat): Nasi Ayam (“Little Anna Kitchen”) (Malaysian) (100 packs)

4 Ramadhan (Sun): Chicken Mandy Rice (Ramia) (Palestinian) (100 packs) and Nasi Goreng Ayam Pad Krapao by our former student Sakina’s mum (Rohingya)(50 packs)

Little Anna Kitchen had also kindly sent some Nasi Ayam Penyet to supplement the food on Sunday, helping tremendously considering the larger number of people expected to be coming on that day!

Additionally, this year we are trying to be friendlier to the environment by requesting that our chefs deliver the meals in paper boxes or in trays to be served to the recipients (encouraging the students and families to bring their own containers when coming to collect the food!). This initiative is driven byone if our members Hanisah of .sg who is also helping us coordinate our iftar project this Ramadhan.

Thank you again for all the donations that have been received so far, totalling just under RM17,000, Alhamdulillah, allowing us to distribute meals for about 17 days. InsyaAllah, your support with another RM13,000 will help us continue this effort for another 13 days. Any excess funds will be used to pay for more food and to cover other expenses (eg. transport).

Al-Ikhlas Hope Society’s (AHS’s) 7th AGM - looking back on 2025 - was successfully held yesterday morning, the 14th Feb, at this beautifully inspiring place, Liberal Latte, a cafe in Wisma E&C in D’sara Heights (courtesy of one of our committee members, 🙏🏼 ). There were about 25 of of us altogether made up of the teams at .official Refugee Emergency Fund (REF)ysia for which AHS acts as the fiscal sponsor, with 5 joining virtually from 5 locations across the world (namely the US, Canada, Singapore, India, and a less well-known place called Gombak! ☺️). Alhamdulillah, a great opportunity to reflect on the year past and to discuss issues and plans for the upcoming year. 💐 As one of those presenting mentioned, this was a partnership that meant resources could be synergised and costs optimised, necessary in sustaining the operations of an NGO.

We took the opportunity of having the space earlier in the morning to hold our second Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) session for Al-Ikhlas School teachers this year, facilitated by Hanisah, another committee member, and her husband Zaid, who together run .Spreading good, wherever we go 🚐♥️w other initiatives. This was to set our MEL plans for the school in 2026, inspired by MEL workshops organised by | by and with refugeesleads in November last year. InsyaAllah a few indicators have been identified, specific to what Al-Ikhlas School is about, measuring them giving us an idea of the effectiveness of our efforts and what interventions to make in reaching our goals. The session started out with a fun brainstorming exercise of the teachers’ ideal school… InsyaAllah, a dream that could come to fruition one fine day! 😌❤️
