FLAME is a not-for-profit initiative dedicated to the development of responsible young leaders, rooted in strong moral values and committed to the betterment of local communities. We are a group of like-minded professionals who volunteer our time and professional expertise towards developing the talents and capabilities of young people that would be of benefit to them and the society at large in t
he future. Our programmes are focused on young people between the ages of 11 and 15, irrespective of race, religion or socio-economic status. All programmes are provided at cost or subsidized and usually planned during school holidays. We invite others – parents, professionals, institutions and university students – to join us in this effort to help young people develop strong positive capabilities for their self development and the betterment of the community. We believe that young people, by the age of 15 would have or will begin to assume weighty responsibilities. The years immediately before this age is of special significance because it is the time when fundamental concepts about individual and collective life are formulated in their minds, as they struggle to leave behind the habits of childhood. It is during this period that they have a questioning mind and a fertile time to challenge and imbue them with positive moral values – values that will become foundations for their future motivation, behavior and action. At this age, they must be given the tools needed to recognize the moral reasoning that underlie the choices and decisions they make as they mature into young adults and responsible members of the community.
