Club No.: 83288)
The Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani is the local chapter of Rotary, a global network of 1.2 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem solvers who come together to make positive, lasting change in communities at home and abroad. Since our Charter in 2010, the members of the Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani have carried out numerous projects to help the needy and und
erprivileged both locally and internationally. The Covid-19 pandemic which changed the world as we know it in 2020, saw our members step up to the challenge of answering the call for aid for the many segments of society that have been badly hit by the effects of the pandemic. Over the last two years, we have :-
a) Established a medical day care unit at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim Sungai
Petani;
b) provided personal protective equipment for front liners at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim Sungai Petani and surrounding medical facilities;
c) provided personal protective equipment for the Corrections Department in Kedah and Penang;
d) provided groceries and daily essentials for over one thousand (1,000) underprivileged families and seven (7) care homes in Sungai Petani, other districts in Kedah and mainland Penang;
e) covered the operating expenses for six (6) homes for the handicapped, aged and infirm which altogether have around three (300) residents during the Movement Control Order (MCO);
f) provided face masks, hand sanitisers and thermo scanners for thirty five (35) schools in Sungai Petani and mainland Penang;
g) provided over three hundred (300) laptops for needy students; and
h) many other humanitarian projects that have been urgently needed. All the above projects would not have been possible without the kindness and generosity of numerous individuals, companies and corporations that have donated generously and contributed to the success of our projects. For the coming Rotary Year, we intend to carry out even more projects that benefit the community with special emphasis on projects related to health and education like :-
- providing laptops and desktop computers for students from underprivileged families and for schools which are not fully aided by the Education Ministry;
- setting up a haemodialysis centre for underprivileged patients;
- providing free spectacles and free cataract surgery for underprivileged patients;
- providing free spectacles, school uniforms and supplies for students from underprivileged families;
- equipping the sensory room of the Occupational Therapy Unit at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim;
- setting up a palliative care centre;
- organising vocational programmes and providing skills training to youths and others from the B40 community to enable them to be self or gainfully employed;
- carrying out workshops on early intervention training for parents and caregivers of children with autism;
- providing water dispensers in schools; and
- raising awareness of mental health in the community. We intend to raise around RM 500,000.00 to carry out the abovementioned projects in the coming Rotary Year. In addition, we are also raising funds for various smaller projects throughout the year. This includes providing emergency aid for victims of natural disasters, carrying out medical camps and other ad-hoc projects that require Rotary’s help and assistance.
