She came in as a competitive powerlifter with a passion for media. She left as a powerlifter, a media producer β€” and a small business owner. Meet Hannah Mae Chua, an alumna of the AYA Volunteer Internship Programme (VIP), whose three months with Flatfish Media turned into a journey of unexpected self-discovery.

From editing in DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro to producing the full Missions Documentary β€” where she coordinated talents and led the team through production β€” Hannah built real skills, real confidence, and a real portfolio. It was also during her time with us that she discovered and launched her own business, finding the clarity and courage to take that leap.

What made it all possible? The people. Daily lunches, dinners, and a team that cheered her on β€” not just at work, but at her powerlifting competitions and in her new business venture. AYA didn't just prepare Hannah for a career in media. It helped her find out who she is.

Some internships teach you a skill. Toby Cedric's taught him a way of life.
Over three months split between AYA's IT Department and Flatfish Media, Toby threw himself into work that was equal parts technical and human. Alongside IT lead Kuan Cheen, he tackled the migration of websites to new servers and helped test a Telegram Zoom Bot built to automate meeting creation β€” real, hands-on work with a tangible impact. When major events like came around, he crossed department lines without hesitation, lending a hand to the Design Team with logistics, packing, and moving materials.

But the growth that meant most to Toby wasn't measured in servers migrated or boxes moved. It was the mentorship. Kuan Cheen's patience and willingness to share knowledge β€” both professional and personal β€” left a lasting impression on him. And in a detail that's small but telling, Toby also picked up something many young people quietly struggle with: a consistent daily routine, showing up at the same time every morning, five days a week.
What Toby describes when he talks about AYA isn't an office. It's a family β€” one defined by genuine joy, everyday kindness, and the kind of shared memories that make the work feel like more than work.

Ian Peter Cheong β€” IPC to those who know him β€” didn't just complete an internship. Over three months with Flatfish Media, AYA's creative media arm, he found his footing in a fast-moving industry and discovered what it really means to be part of a team.

Ian stepped into the deep end early, taking the lead on significant editing projects including the Easter Testimony video and the Christ Taking intro. But the lessons that shaped him most weren't found in the edit suite β€” they came from the set itself. He learned how to manage people in the moment, how to make everyone around him feel seen and valued, and how to navigate the nuances of professional relationships both on and off camera.

Perhaps the sharpest skill he walked away with was adaptability. Short-runway projects β€” the kind that demand fast thinking over careful planning β€” pushed Ian to trade his methodical instincts for quick, confident decision-making. In media, that shift isn't optional. He learned to embrace it.
For IPC, the VIP experience was less about mastering software and more about mastering himself β€” learning to meet last-minute challenges with composure and finding his rhythm in a real professional environment.

Joel Yee, a graduate of the Asian Youth Ambassadors (AYA) Volunteer Internship Programme (VIP), reflects on how his time with Mordecai Coaching & Leadership Solutions β€” AYA's professional training arm β€” shaped him as a leader and as a person.

Over the course of his internship, Joel immersed himself in hands-on leadership development. He supported coaching research and contributed to landmark events. On the creative side, he pushed his design skills in Canva, producing the Mordecai brochure and building presentation slides. He also took part in VIP training sessions, where he worked through the SOAR method β€” a framework that helped him uncover his strengths and sharpen his sense of purpose.

But what stayed with him most wasn't a project or a skill β€” it was the people. Joel describes a warm, welcoming office culture where the team's genuine kindness made him feel at home from day one. A small but memorable touch? The "first and last day sandwiches" that turned colleagues into family.
