【Learning Classics Together – Growing Through The Great Learning (大学)】
To encourage students to enjoy Chinese classics and to promote the spirit of learning together, we organised a simple classroom activity where older students guided younger students in reciting The Great Learning. Through reading aloud together, the students experienced the wisdom of Chinese culture while learning from one another.
During the activity, Huang De Ren took the initiative to lead Lin Jia Hong, Lin Jia Yu, and Huang Yuan Ting in reciting The Great Learning. Luo Jian Wei also guided Lin Zu En throughout the session. Tang Jing En, Tian En Yu, and Su Zu Heng joined the activity with great enthusiasm. The students encouraged one another and participated attentively. For some of them, it was their first time standing in front of the class to lead others. Although they were a little nervous, they showed courage by taking the first step and accepting the responsibility.
The opening line of The Great Learning reminds us that learning begins with building good character and always striving to become a better person. By reciting the text repeatedly, students strengthened their memory, concentration, and speaking skills while learning important values through the classics.
The greatest value of this classroom activity was not only learning the classic itself, but also seeing older students take responsibility and patiently support their younger schoolmates. Through learning together, the older students developed leadership and a sense of responsibility, while the younger students gained confidence through the encouragement and example of their seniors.
We believe that learning classics is not only about gaining knowledge, but also about building character. We will continue to include classical reading in our daily lessons, helping students grow in confidence, develop good values, and learn to support one another as they grow.
