It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved community member, Madam Tialamah A/P Pitchakaran.

Her warm smile, gentle presence, and quiet kindness touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

We will miss her caring spirit and the grace with which she carried herself. May her journey be blissful and light, and may the memories she leaves behind bring comfort to Praba Chenaya and her loved ones.

Our deepest condolences to her family. Please know that you remain in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Here are the small details: the pottu on the forehead + jasmine in the hair (kondeh malai), and a wooden chappal with a toe k**b. Other details include a silver gelang kaki reflecting the Melaka Chetti Hindu custom and cultural identity.

Congratulations to PPBNKLS for organizing such a memorable and meaningful event over the weekend. The 36th International Baba Nyonya Convention not only showcased the vibrant colors of Peranakans from across the region, but also deepened our collective sense of unity and belonging.

We are truly grateful for the inclusion of the Melaka Chetti Heritage Association of Malaysia (MCHAM), the Melaka Chetti Kitchen and the Malacca Chitty Cultural Association, Selangor in this celebration, and we look forward to future collaborations that will continue to uplift and strengthen our shared Peranakan identity.

Kudos to Cedric Tan, Celia Sook Peng Yeo, and the many people behind the scene who made this event a success. 🎉

Congratulations to Jennifer Rathabai Kunchiram! 🥳

The Melaka Chetti Community proudly celebrates the achievements of one of our own, Jennifer Rathabai, a distinguished educator, passionate heritage advocate, and lifelong learner.

With over three decades of experience in English language education, Jennifer has shaped the minds of both local and international students. Her academic journey, from the National University of Malaysia to the International Islamic University, reflects her deep commitment to excellence.

As a Senior Lecturer in the Intensive English Programme and a two-time recipient of Sunway University’s Teaching Quality Recognition Award, she continues to inspire through innovation, creativity, and student-centred learning.

Beyond the classroom, Jennifer has championed our Melaka Chetti heritage through talks across Malaysia and Singapore, sharing stories that connect generations and preserve our unique identity.

We salute her dedication, her accomplishments, and her unwavering pride in our community. May her journey continue to uplift and empower others.

Sisterhood of the Melaka Chetti women — taking our gendang legacy forward. 🥁🌺

Just two weeks ago we gathered, united by a shared passion for the gendang. For many of us, it was the first time holding a gendang which has always been played by the men during Mengamey.

Proud of what we’ve achieved and excited to keep celebrating, learning, and living our unique heritage.
