Saturday, 28-02-2026 Community Spirit in a Bowl: The PJS 9 Bubur Lambuk Tradition with Surau Al-Mukminin
On February 28th, 2026, the spirit of togetherness was in full bloom as KRT PJS 9 proudly supported the Bubur Lambuk program, organized by Surau Al-Mukminin PJS 9.
It was a truly heartening sight to see residents from all walks of life—both Muslim and non-Muslim—coming together to cook, pack, and distribute this seasonal favorite. The Gotong-Royong effort kicked off at 9:30 AM, and by 3:00 PM, we successfully distributed 600 packs of delicious bubur lambuk to the community.
Our mission was to share the blessings as widely as possible. The distribution reached:
> Residents of PJS 9, PJS 10, and PJS 11.
> Our neighbors at Surau Al-Bukhari PJS 7.
> Balai Polis Bandar Sunway.
> Commuters and passers-by at the Gate 3 entrance, where our security team handed out packs directly on the street.
Bubur lambuk is a significant cultural cornerstone of Ramadan in Malaysia, symbolizing the spirit of generosity and community. As a savory rice porridge traditionally prepared in large quantities at mosques and suraus, it is distributed for free to ensure everyone has a nutritious meal to break their fast. The preparation process fosters the spirit of Gotong-Royong, bringing together neighbors of all backgrounds to stir, pack, and share, turning a religious tradition into a shared experience of kindness and unity.
From a practical standpoint, the dish is designed to be gentle on the digestive system after a day of fasting. Infused with warming spices like ginger, cinnamon, and star anise, it provides a balanced and easily digestible meal that promotes wellness. In our multicultural landscape, it acts as a powerful bridge for social harmony, welcoming everyone to celebrate these shared values together.
A massive thank you goes out to:
> Councilor Pravin Murali, our MBSJ Councilor for MPP Zone 2, for taking the time out of his busy schedule to join us and personally help distribute the bubur lambuk
> Surau Al-Mukminin for initiating this wonderful collaborative effort.
> KRT PJS 9 members who dedicated their Saturday to ensure the program's success.
> All the residents who stopped by to help or share a smile during the distribution.
We are also excited to share that this event was featured in the March 2026 edition of SJ Echo! It’s wonderful to see our community’s hard work recognized on a wider platform.
Let’s keep this spirit of unity alive.
