Projek BacaBaca A reading project that aims to improve learning poverty in Malaysia

Projek BacaBaca began its pilot project in 2021 to meet the needs of 30 primary school urban students living in poverty from Kuala Lumpur by
- Allocating a volunteer to a student for the duration of 6 months
- Teaching reading in Bahasa Melayu
- Teaching reading in English and
- Monitoring progress and improvement through diagnostic, mid-term and end of project tests

After a successful pilot

project, students have shown improvement in:
- Reading skills
- Reading interest
- Ability to converse with volunteers on topics related to reading materials

Projek BacaBaca is ready for its next stage in 2022 involving 100 primary students living in poverty across different states in Malaysia.

We’re hiring literacy assessment markers for Projek BacaBaca! 📚📝

If you’re passionate about supporting young readers and want to help close the national literacy gap, we’d love to have you on board.

Markers will be assessing primary school–level BM comprehension, writing, and grammar using our provided rubric — all within a set marking timeline. ✏️📄

You’ll need to be based in the Klang Valley, as physical papers will be mailed directly to you.

This is a paid opportunity, and your work will play a meaningful role in strengthening children’s reading journeys. 🌟

Projek BacaBaca is proud to have been featured as one of Taylor’s University’s flagship projects at the 16th Teaching and Learning Conference on Thursday. This year’s theme centred around AI and Sustainability in Education, with PBB highlighted as an NGO focusing on purpose-led education. 🚀🎯

It was a wonderful experience for our team to meet and introduce the project to the Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, who officiated the event. ⭐️🎤

✨ From “accidental educator” to TEDx stage ✨

Our amazing Reading Coach was never planning to be an educator — but she kept saying “yes” to challenges. One small “yes” led her to become a community educator, and another “yes” brought her to Projek BacaBaca+, where she now helps children discover the joy of reading. 📚💡

Last week, she said another big “yes” — to sharing her story as a Reading Coach at TEDxSetapak! 🌟

We’ve just wrapped up our third training session for our coaches! 💻✅ This time, we explored strategies to improve reading sessions — from supporting quieter or more energetic children, to helping their students build stronger comprehension skills. 📝💬

At the heart of our programme is one simple truth: every child deserves to read. Projek BacaBaca steps in to bridge the literacy gap — helping children read at grade level through targeted interventions tailored to their needs. 📖🎯

A huge thank you to our dedicated reading coaches for joining us in this session. Your passion and commitment move us closer to ensuring every child gets the support they deserve. Together, we’re turning small steps into big change 🚀❤️
