Another Meaningful Evening of Learning, Laughter & Growth!
Swan City Toastmasters Club successfully completed our 4th Meeting for the 2026–2027 term on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, at the Sibu Cancer Care Society. It was another enjoyable evening where members came together to practise communication, build confidence and, most importantly, learn from one another.
The evening began with our President Julian Chieng, followed by Toastmaster of the Evening Sylvia Ting, who guided us smoothly through the programme. We also enjoyed a lively Humor Session led by Elijah Ting, bringing plenty of smiles and laughter into the meeting.
🎤 Prepared Speech Session
We were treated to two very different but meaningful speeches.
Bryan Tan presented his Ice Breaker, “Still Becoming,” taking an important first step in his Toastmasters journey. Every experienced speaker once stood where Bryan stood tonight — introducing himself, overcoming nervousness and discovering the confidence to tell his own story.
Our experienced speaker DTM Jane Elizabeth Moh then delivered “Step Into the Arena,” under the Connect with Storytelling project. Her speech reminded us that growth does not happen by standing outside and watching — sometimes we simply have to find the courage to step into the arena.
Their evaluators, CTM, CL Steven Wong and DTM Wong Toh Hee, provided constructive feedback to help our speakers continue improving. This is one of the beauties of Toastmasters: we speak, we listen, we evaluate, and we grow together.
The excitement continued with the Table Topics Session, led by Lim Xing Hui, where members had the opportunity to think on their feet and speak spontaneously. CL Kong Hieng Hung later provided the Table Topics evaluation, while Ting Su Ding, Julian Chieng, Michelle Jasmine and Lau Hieng Poh completed the General Evaluation team.
Our Word of the Day was “August” — not the month this time, but an adjective meaning grand, respected or distinguished. Perhaps it was indeed an appropriate word for an august gathering of Toastmasters! 😄
A Toastmasters meeting is never only about giving speeches. It is about creating a safe place where we can try, make mistakes, receive encouragement, laugh together and become a little better than we were yesterday.
