The latest Global Forest Review 2025 by the World Resources Institute (WRI) provides an important signal for Malaysia.
Malaysia is recognised as an example where policy measures are helping to stabilise forest loss. Notably, the report highlights that stronger Malaysia Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification likely helped sustain lower forest loss rates.
This is not a coincidence.
It reflects years of deliberate policy direction, governance, and industry-wide efforts to strengthen sustainability implementation on the ground, from mandatory certification to enhanced requirements on traceability, land use, and social safeguards.
For MSPO, this serves as important external validation.
But letโs be clear, this is not the finish line.
The expectation from markets, regulators, and global buyers will only continue to rise. The real test is consistency of implementation, credibility of data, and our ability to continuously improve.
MSPO will continue to evolve, strengthening implementation, enhancing system integrity, and ensuring Malaysia remains a credible and competitive supplier of sustainable palm oil.
Progress is real. Now, we scale it.
