April Water Quality Index (WQI) readings at Teluk Menegon and Pengkalan Batu continued to reflect a similar trend as the previous month, with the river remaining predominantly in Class IV condition throughout most of the month.
Meanwhile, our monitoring station at Sungai Nibong recorded an improvement in water quality, with 73% of readings classified under Class III and 27% under Class IV. This indicates slightly better river conditions compared to the other monitoring stations.
The conditions recorded across these stations are commonly associated with low dissolved oxygen levels, high organic pollution loads and elevated ammoniacal nitrogen concentrations, often linked to industrial, commercial and residential activities within urban river catchments.
Continuous monitoring, responsible waste management and collective community action remain essential in restoring the health of the Klang River for future generations.
